Hi!

I’m looking for any advice on what to show my new boy in once the season starts. He’s likely to fill out a bit more, has 9 inches of bone and is an IDx.

The people I got him off, suggested to put him in as a small hunter but other have said he doesn’t fit the profile. Others have said LW or MW cob, but I don’t want to hog him and not be able to enter anything else if it doesn't work out.
(Also, if I hogged him for cobs, would I still be able to enter side saddle classes?)

Thanks in advance!! xx

Thanks for all the replies so far! I forgot to mention, the seller said he’s 16hh but seems way way smaller in person, I have yet to get him measured but I’d be thinking he’s around 155-158. Here’s a more daily picture of him when he’s not so done up.

He is a lovely model of a horse and the type many people want.
As others have said he is no where near a cob.
The closest he would be is a hunter (small if he sticks) and I would imagine he will do pretty well locally and at the agricultural type shows.
He is unlikely to be consistently high up the line at County, he just isn’t typey enough, but if he behaves well and gives the judge a nice ride should give you a fun day out.

I don’t envy you the bathing though!

Depending where you are and what your plans/experience is, perhaps go to Showing Register Clinic with him and get advice from an expert seeing him in the flesh. Looks like you could have lots of fun with him and lots of washing.

I've a Connie x Draught that I've done a good bit with as a Small Hunter - he is 158 on the button but he doesnt do well cause as said above they want more blood, so they dont like bone anymore in Small Hunters - I've had so many judges give me lovely comments on him that he is a traditional stamp of a Small Hunter but he never gets pulled in anywhere in the line up initially but he rides lovely so have been lucky to place a few times on that, which is really nice!

But if you arent worried about placing & just want to enjoy a bit of showing they I'd do Small Hunter with him - getting him riding sweetly & you can never know what might happen :D

Oh & if he jumps - go have some fun with Working Hunter :)

I'd definitely say Small Hunter OP....

They are supposed to miniature MW hunters are they not?? In type...

Anyhow, he looks similar to a horse belonging to my friend who has done quite well at this years agricultural shows in Small Hunter and Small WH classes.

Good luck, and definitely don't hog x

They should be miniature MW's but as I have found time and time again my horse rarely beats a fat TB. I had mine assessed by Robert Oliver who told me that had the horse been around a few years ago she would have been very successful. It is very frustrating to be told a horse like this too common. 37217165_1133871553420175_500110497366933504_n.jpg

Maybe time for a weight division for the smalls, a heavy and light would give the not really cobs doing l/w classes another option, I used to show a small that was a true m/w he did ok then but would certainly not get looked at now, he was not dissimilar to the grey and won a fair few workers when he was not completely dwarfed by the big horses.

Brilliant idea.

My first thought was he looks very connemara but with an id head stuck on. Im not sure how well he will do in type classes at all but its all about getting out there and having fun and giving him experience and exposure.

If there was a fat feral Twit class (in hand) I could enter Fatty and he'd probably win if he didn't trample the judge or eat her/him. Actually I think we should have a class for the horse/pony that the judge would like least to take home. Fatty would probably win that too. It's a good job he makes me laugh!
