a friend of a friend is looking for a part share. i am willing to let her ride my horse at the weekend, as i rarely get the chance on saturdays, due to work and/or kids, and he cud do with the extra exercise! all i wud ask of her is to clean the tack and tidy up after herself. what wud you charge?

it all depends... does she mind paying?

if she's doing you a favour, i think you should be reasonable, and think of what the horse is gaining out of it.

however, if she doesn't mind paying, i'd say no more than 10quid per ride. cos she could have a lesson for that. and wouldn't have to clean the tack etc!

A friend at the yard rides my horse on a casual basis, usually once a week but varies as to when it suits her. She does no jobs in return (doesn't muck out, clean tack etc) nor does she pay anything, though she will 'finish off' (chuck the rug back on and put his feed bucket in) if I have done all the jobs.

The way I see it, she is doing me a favour, giving my horse a (much needed) bit extra work. If I were on a full livery yard, it would cost me to get someone to exercise my horse.

Plus it suits me as he is 'my' horse, not part anyone elses! No quibbles then about stable management, feed etc.

If she is doing you a favour I would have thought she could ride and do stable duties for that day - e.g. prepare feeds, muck out and clean take just to help out a bit and almost as a thank you from her with no cash payment.

she was looking at paying someone else £15 per day! i just want something towards his shoeing cost. not really looking for a share as such as i'd still be doing him the day she rode, not when she's there mind, but i'd be there in the morning and evening. i'm too fussy to let someone else look after him, but dont mind them borrowing him for a ride. maybe £10 per ride? she'd pay £25 at a school round here.

One of my friends looked after my horse on the weekend she could ride him if she wanted I work 14 hrs per day on a sat and sun so I did not charge her as she was doing me a favour. Due to her personal circumstances she can not do him and has not for a few months and am feeling the pinch with my livery so much so I have put him up for part loan, again am more concerned that they see to him and exercise him prop more than finacial contr when I find someone.

£10 sounds reasonable then. make sure she has insurance etc as better to be safe than sorry. If she wants to she can also make an added contribution by buying the odd things.
