I started thinking about getting horse number 3 a few months ago. Decided I wanted 15.2 ish fine type - probably a tb, had to be a gelding, and was thinking something around 10yrs old.

This weekend I viewed and bought a 4yr old, 14.2 cob mare! :) fell in love with her pretty quickly and am very excited about getting her home next week!

Anyone else set out with a particular purchase in mind, and ended up with something totally different!?

Yes went looking for a gelding to get started in eventing came back with a mare who was sister to Supreme Rock.
Horse of a lifetime bless her

Yup! Wanted chunky 15hh at least safe cob type .. Ended up with a 14hh mad welsh d who I haven't even ridden in the almost 3 years I've owned her :p

Beat this :D

I wanted a coloured shetland to take along to CHAPS with my daughter and her show cob, I figured I could just about run fast enough to show one.

I ended up buying a 3 year old completely unhandled, not even halter broken 16hh+ coloured warmblood :D :D I felt sorry for her.

Totally...

Was looking for a happy hacker, 100% plod... Went to see one - except it turned out to be a 4yr old TB... And yeah, I bought him... Although in my defence he was in a terribly neglected state, massively underweight, covered with rain rot, a hairs breath away from rolling over and a chestnut *sigh*... I just couldn't walk away and leave him...

So now I have a green TB who's an absolute darling and I wouldn't be without... But I'm still looking for the elusive plod so I can actually ride! :D

i didnt have an exact type in mind but wanted something between 15-16hh that would give me confidence to go out and compete.

this was my 'want' list

very laid back to handle
steady kick along type
something with a bit of experience
6-12 yrs
bombproof in traffic
healthy!!

this is what i got

hot headed, can be bolshy to lead and a nightmare to brush
super whizzy and strong
very little experience, mostly hacked and field ornament
14 yrs old
good with majority of traffic but quite spooky and daft on his own
just been diagnosed with uveitis

BUT i love him to bits and he has turned out to be my not so perfect, perfect friend!!!!

Yes last year when I was looking, I was after something between 15-16hhs wasn't to worried on breed. Wanted an allrounder, something not spoilt, wasn't worried if it not been out & about competing, but something that was ready to go. I did find 2 that was perfect exactly what I was looking for, but both failed vetting. I have ended up with a 14.2 4yr old, he was advertised as full up 14.2 but he wasn't, I did have people telling me not to get him he was to small as I am tall, but I thought sod it I don't want to affiliate I only want to have a bit of fun so I sacraviced the height & I don't regret it at all he has been a little star & so willing to try :D

My first horse as a 13 year old girl....

We went out looking for a super safe cob who had been there and got he tshirt, aged 8-12, ideally a gelding and pref not a grey...

Came home with a grey connemara mare, aged 4, straight over from Ireland. Green as grass..... but with the kindest temperament.

With hindsight it was not a good match. She was an angel on the ground, and fab to hack, but really needed so much more schooling... which i didn't give her as I wasn't experienced enough. She was wonderful tho, and I loved her to bits. Still think about her a lot. :(

Yep, I set out to get a full up 14.2 to BSJA when I was 15, wanted a complete schoolmaster 12-15yrs old. (Was going to buy it)

Ended up with a 15.2 5yr old Irish coloured hunter type on full loan! He was a really lovely boy though and I wouldn't swap the 2 years I had with him for the world, I still go and visit and ride him every so often.

At the grand old age of 11 my parents said I could have a pony of my own. We looked at an 8 year old, dark bay, 14hh NF schoolmaster but came back with his full sister instead! Just about 13hh, barely handled 2 year old. It did all work out in the end though, she was a fabulous pony.
When I got Markie, I was specifically looking for an old ploddy cob. I got the old and the cob right but he's anything but a plod!

Yup! Wanted a schoolmaster type .. About 10 and had completely ruled out bays and really didn't want white socks .. (was being really picky and lazy) ended up
With a 5 year old that hadn't been to a single show which is bay with 4 white socks! :D

He is however the best horse ever : D

Yeah I thought I wanted a 15hh Irish gelding, something with a bit of a jump but was also laid-back and hardy enough to live out.

Ended up with a 16.1 4yr old Tb! He's perfect though, he does have to live in but he's a super brave jumper, pretty laid-back most of the time and very versatile. He's also a lot more beautiful then the workman like type I thought I wanted which is nice as I spend hours grooming him and looking at him lol.

After I lost my neurotic PBA with issues I decided I wanted a straightforward no-issues go-anywhere horse.....something to possibly compete......and deffo not grey.

I bought a 5 year old grey arab. With issues. And then some.

Wot a glutton for punishment....

Luckily he's turning out alright but at the point where it was taking me 2 hours to get on the damn spinny thing I did question my sanity....:o

I wanted a schoolmaster, pref a chestnut around15.2-16hh

Ended up with a 5yr old ID, who is nearly 17hh!!! To be fair though she seems to have an old head in young shoulders :-)
