Whats a good weight

I was giving my boy a good grooming today and OH says is he on a diet he looks like hes lost weight. Usually I ignore everything he says as he is an idiot , but oh my god I think he is right (1st time ever) so what should a 5yr old 15.1 tb weigh . he is about 435kg is this ok .I am panicking now as its his 1st winter living out

Sounds about right to me, unless he is a thick-set TB in which case perhaps a few more lbs wouldn't hurt.

Thats what I thought ,he definatly looks thinner but he actually put on since hes been out mustve been sucking his tummy in hoping I would give him some treats! Thanks for putting my mind at rest

My TB always started to look a little less covered at this time of year and she wouldn't eat any more even if I gave her loads of hay. I used to have to vary her hard feed even to encourage her to eat that. I would say that as long as you are confident he is warm enough being out (and be careful with the thorough grooming as removes all the stuff they use to keep warm), has access to either reasonable grass (never going to be amazing this time of year but still some about where I am) or good quality hay, then there isn't much more you can do. Some people feed a drop of oil to increase weight (just normal cooking oil) but I have never tried it.
