As in title?? We're talking green but nice pony and experienced but not professional rider, to take pony to e.g. novice/elem and jump at local level. I've been asked to school this pony once a week but have no idea what to charge!!

Have they said that they would pay you? I was asked to help re-back someones horses but didn't charge them. I would spend hours up there working on them 4/5days of the week but i did it because i love doing it not because i was after money for it.

yeh, i have to travel to the pony and it's quite far so a bit of a pain - i really like him but couldn't possibly justify doing it for free as i also ahve two of my own to keep fit (they asked me to do it for money though, i didn't offer then say i'd charge them!!).

depending how long I'd say £15-£25 on the higher side if you are schooling and therefore impoving it. but, if you are just riding it, hacking out and just giving the horses excersise then more like £15

As a guide, I charge £20. I am a BHS registered instructor, with full insurance to both ride and teach. I have competed at Intermediate/CCI* level eventing. I'm based in Yorkshire, but depending upon where you are based the going rate may be a bit more or less. Just make sure you have relevant insurance.

Be VERY careful taking money to school someone else's horse if you have no insurance. What would you do if the horse got injured while you were riding it? even if they were friends with yours I would be very very wary.

If it's a properly qualified instructor or professional, £20 per 45 minute schooling session and £15 for a 45 minute hack.

I wouldn't have someone who wasn't qualified school my horse but have on occassion needed help with fitness work and have paid £5 per half hour of hacking to a sensible friend.
