I need a feed for my new horse to get him a bit more interested in his food. He eats his sugarbeet and cubes but sort half-heartedly. Can anyone recommend a really yummy feed to perk him up?!

My tb loved Top spec super conditioning flakes - they put a great shine on his coat and gave him a bit of sparkle but no silliness. Shame I had to drive 40 miles to get them :) :) How is the new boy - very very jealous - he is stunning :)

Have a look at Allen & Page - their mixes smell yummy but they aren't covered in molasses. Their Herbal Quiet Mix smells gorgeous.:)

Echo Slinky.... I don't know any fussy feeder who doesn't eat A&P's Calm and Condition - makes a lovely mash which they adore! My new boy has gone from picking and tipping his feed bucket to wolfing his feeds down and licking the bowl clean! :)

Top Spec Doctor Green is very good at enhancing apetite as its really lovely and minty, my TB is so fussy but he absoultey loves the SPilers COnditioning FIbre, its so soft and palatable and D&H convalecent diet is brilliant, so so yummy! he is novice eventing but i give him a 1/4 conv diet to help him enjoy his food, he polishes his bowl clean every day! its loads of trail and error unfortunately, lots of companies will send you samples of their feeds i spent 100's getting various bags of this and that that he would then not eat! so threw loads of feed, i wish i had sent off for samples instead, good luck!

Make sure when you pick another feed that you dont go on your own feelings! you need to assess whether the new feed is suitable for the horse as well as tasty. Many of the mixes mentioned are palatable, often because they are covered in mollasses. But some are high in starch which could cause problems.

You could always just add a handful of mint or fenugreek seeds toyour current feed.

I would try Winergy. Mine is a bit of a foody anyway, so will eat most things, but she goes MAD for Winergy. I have heard of a couple of fussy feeders who have gone on this and eaten up well. It is also fantastic for consistent energy levels :)

I think some horses get bored chewing nuts, even if they have no problems with their teeth. Perhaps yours would prefer just a general type of pasture mix, which often have only very small nuts in.

My good doer shoeless girlie has Dengie Healthy Hooves and is great on it. Big 17yo old hunter chap had nuts, Blue Chip, farriers formula, pink powder, the lot. But he kept reaching out his neck as her HH went past and made it clear thats what he wanted too!

Now he just has Healthy Hooves like her but with a sprinkle of the Spillers H+P nuts hes eaten for 11 years on top. He's never looked better. And I dont need hoof boots at all with her now.

Its lovely stuff, moist and nutty (dont confuse with the Spillers version which is dry sawdust and was rejected!) and they wolf it down. Even good enough to catch naughty ponies with.

Great manes/tails and hooves too! And its lami trust approved.

You haven't met my mare! She loved it for a few months but has now gone off it, but the Power and Performance is now in fashion along with sugarbeet. She'll eat something for a while and then get bored with it.

However C&C soaked in hot water smells absolutely yummy

i have mine on winergy horse feeds and my westphalian x tb used to leave his feeds before i changed over from fast fiber, nuts and chaff he move onto his field buddys feed and i had to keep swapping them back as she had something diffrent, but since being on winergy he has stopped that,my daughters pony did the same but she stopped aswell they must love the winergy.

:)Another vote for Dengie Healthy Hooves.... my boy takes his carrots out and lays them on the floor for after, so he can enjoy his HH. If I mixed it with speedibeat, he would try and spit that out so he just had HH.....so now it's just his HH and his carrots separate ! He looks great, and his hooves are fab (barefoot). sm xx :)
