my tb has extremely poor feet, has has absolutley no growth to his feet, they break up easily and they are just generally shocking. he is currently having remedial shoeing for navicular but we need more growth to his feet so we have something to play with. it needs to be good quality growth. i have had him on naf pro feet liquid and he stopped eating it after a while so i will be willing to try the powder! any recomendations. no expense spaired!
thanks

I used formula4feet and it worked but farriers formula supposed to be good, I think kevin bacon do one but not too sure on that, maybe it's just the paint on stuff. Don't NAF do a biotin supplement? Find one with calcium and magnesium in it.

What feed is your horse getting? Some feed companies have biotin added in which is a good cheaper option.

We use seaweed, brewers yeast and boiled linseed mix for ours. Seaweed naturally contains biotin.

And good old cornucrescine (sp?) is excellent for promoting growth, just apply to the coronet band everyday

Used to use just straight biotin on the blood horses but inherited some hairies with feet problems and was advised to use Formula 4 Feet by farrier. Now give it to everything and have noticed a significant improvement in the quality of horn in the TB's.
It was developed by the Laminitis Trust (I do consider Robert Eustace to be almost godlike when it comes to feet) and comes in mini pellet form - nothing on my yard has declined it.
Not cheap but, hey, no foot no horse....

Ooooooo well, there you go and thanks I might try that. One question... what type of seaweed? I assume one you can get from the feedstore...

taz is on farriers formula, he gets kevin bacon liquid on every day an cornecrescent on twice a week, mainly because he ripped half his back hoof off after pulling a shoe xc and it needed a wee bit of help to grow back

I would look at Grand Meadow's Grand Hoof or Grand hoof pellets. my two are on grand complete (has grand hoof in it) and their hooves are much better than before we started them on it. Just put it into google. Good luck.

I am another one using seaweed - much cheaper than most suplements but it is worth looking at his diet generally as if it is high in sugar this may not be helping him.

I swear by kevin bacon hoof dressing and cornucrescine - both great for promoting / maintaining healthy hoof growth.

What feed are you feeding?
Most off my tbs came to me with crap feet but all have very strong feet with no cracks in sight. I stronger feel as long as the horse has a good balanced diet with ALL they need there is no need for added hoof supplements.
All mine are feed on topspec balancer and would never feed anything else it costs £35 a bag for a 40 day supply for a 500kg horse and you need to add no further supplements where as formula for feet etc is about £30 on top your food bill.

Kevin Bacon hoof dressing is amazing, couldn't get my usual stuff from tack shop but they had the Kevin Bacon in and several people had recommended it to me before so thought I would take a punt and get it.

I apply it to my girl's feet daily and due to the huge amount of growth am now having to have her shod every 5 weeks (good for hoof growth not my bank balance!!!!) but my farrier has put this additional growth done to the Kevin Bacon (tis the only thing that has changed for her) and is really pleased as he says so often when it comes time to shoeing horses in general with the trimming of the feet there is often not enough to trim (due to little growth) and therefore left with old clench holes which can promote cracking but with her new super grow feet he will be able to trim away all old clench holes.

thanks for all the replys. he is currently fed on hifi original and pony nuts and solid gold balancer. he has soya oil and speedibeet just changing over to alpha beet. he has stayed on this feed for now as hes only in walk work so he cant have anything thats is going to send him loopy, this has kept him prety level. i had him on biotin plus before which encorouged the growth but they just split and cracked as it grew. tried seaweed but not really noticed any difference, i will get some cournicresine to try. he is being shod every 4/5 weeks as he has aluminium shoes on and he has such little foot to nail to so they tend to start coming loose. even when he was shod every 7 weeks, my farrier didnt even need to trim anything off, a little rasp and thats it! just no growth at all.

When my cobs feet were bad I put her on formula 4 feet and it was amazing. Once her feet were better I moved her to TS Lite and now pink powder.
