I no this is probably a stupid post but.....

Im hopfully moving yards, if you read my post a couple of days ago I was saying about the problem pony at my yard and the offer of moving to my mates house with better facilities, so anyway I have decided that if the money is right then Im goin to move, I was just wandering what you think would be the cheapest option?

At the minute I get bedding included which is shavings from the local saw mills and I deep litter, but at the new yard they use straw and properly much out every day, what do you think is best and what is the cheapest?

Sorry ended up being long!

Straw is cheaper and tends to be less dusty to (i used the barley straw) lovely colour and smell

only problem with it some horses tend to eat it or atleast mine did

Unless the shavings are incredibly dust free, decent straw will be healthier and a lot more picturesque in the stable, but in Cornwall, possibly not cheaper.
It is possible to deep litter straw, but only works with some horses/stables. A lot of people find that rubber mats saves money in the long run, might be worth thinking about. - You can ask for them for Chrsitmas, I did!

ye I was thinking straw, I used to have it at my first yard when I had my pony years ago, I no it sounds silly but I just think horses should be on straw, like in all the story books when you were young! ha!

I find flax on matting cheaper in the long run as my horse likes to make as much mess as possible in the stable - I get through about 2 bales a month whereas when I used straw she needed a bale a day.

I changed from shavings to straw as its cheaper for me.Mind you they all seem to eat half their bedding by the morning
