Visited a website just now to stock up on wormers, and against each wormer was POM/VPS. I know POM is Prescription Only Medicine, but what does the VPS suffix mean to me as a private horse owner?

I know POM/V items require me to have a written vet's prescription, but since when have I needed one of these for a horse wormer??? Am I right in assuming a VPS suffix means I don't?

Normally written confirmation that I am a horse owner along with my name and address is sufficient to buy wormer. I am most confused... (not that it takes much LOL)

They change the cats last year (or possibly late year before) basically it was brought in to differ between the human meds I think VPS is the same as the old PML - which is Pharmacy Merchants list which basically means that people can sell these things but must be on the registar and assertain that the drugs (i.e wormers) will be used for their intention.

I maybe wrong but from memory...

All wormers are prescription only drugs, but VPS means that they can be prescribed by a vet, pharmacist or SQP. An SQP is a 'suitably qualified person' who has passed exams in order to sell wormers, or give worming advice.
As Hellspells above says this is the old PML. Those in the business have been fighting hard to keep this category so we can still purchase wormers in the way we are used to in this country, but the rules have been tightened up a bit.
Hope that helps.

Yes it has, thanks
