What's going on at British Eventing?

They have rejigged FEI allocated events for 2020-2025 and there are a lot of unhappy campers.

There are some really good, established and well invested venues that have lost their international status and some smaller national events gaining international.

In the SW Nunney was axed but then reinstated 24h later after uproar. Bicton have lost their 3* but do have 2*. SW’ers are unhappy, and it’s a shame for Bicton, but I do kind of understand the rationale for giving the north an extra couple.

The big gap seems to be in the SE corner now with 3 internationals axed. Whilst it doesn’t affect me this seems to be a bigger issue than the SW to me.

Scotland is still sparse, but to be fair so is the volume of competitors so its understandable.

Little Gatcombe seems to have been replaced by Cornbury Park which will be a whole new venue and should be good (used to host many years ago)

Wow I hadn’t looked at the list, I didn’t realise Cornbury Park was back! It used to be a good one! And I suppose the Duke of Marlborough hopes it will be a nice little earner like Blenheim 😄

I saw that Hambleden won’t be running any more, such a shame it was a lovely event

I find it amazing how HHO has changed too, 15 years ago when I joined (how has it been that long???!!???) the publication of the BE fixture list every year was eagerly awaited and was the subject of much discussion, now it hardly gets a mention. Sad times ☹️

twittereventing has lots and lots of posts about it. It sounds like a complete hash has been made of it by BE and it makes me really glad I'm not eventing!

edited to say I cant see the post you are referring to? just a list of british eventing pages on FB

It makes me glad I’m not an event organiser that has ploughed multiple thousands into establishing an international level track!

The truth is for the vast majority of competitors it won’t change things hugely, but change is difficult and people are very loyal to certain venues (understandably).

Personally I’m really pleased for Kelsall - it’s a lovely event and a fab team and I’m glad that’s been recognised.

Hambleden’s response did seem a bit toys out of pram but it’s not my area and I don’t know their challenges. Presumably it’s not worth them running if it’s not got FEI classes?

This is the statement:

https://www.britisheventing.com/new...1To0wlUN3COmpvzBKXUUc9bztgDq6LiPTliSSDMGHLTOc

And the first comment in response to it said:

"Don’t worry lawyers have been contacted now so you’ll be pleased to know there will be action outside of FB posts as well now. Can’t believe someone agreed this was an acceptable comms to send out. "

But there are now multiple comments, mostly negative.

I found it in the end. Its not my area but I do follow lower leve competitors so have a vague idea whats going on. There are a lot of VERY angry people. It does sound like its been handled very poorly, and theres lots of questions over the scoring. This just adds to the unhappiness about the website. I've seen lots of comments from people who are just going to run unaffiliated from now onwards and I dont blame them.

I think it is sad that horse and hound doesn't cover controversies like this and the BHS one, the horse owning public are well dispersed around the country and H&H is the main source of info on these topics. With them cosying up to the senior management and only presenting their point of view deprives the masses of a chance to make up their own minds.
