Spotted these bumps on my mares gums about 2 weeks ago, immediately behind her front teeth, same on both sides. Not sure how long they have been there for but don't think they were there previously but could be wrong (she isn't a fan of me looking in her mouth that much hence only pic of one side) Just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this before, and what they could be?

She is due her 6 month dental check next month and will ask the vet then (though I feel like the fronts don't get much of a look in and this could have been/be obscured by the gag) but interested in the mean time, can't find anything online. She has just turned 12 and appears to have the right amount of front teeth that all appear normal, she does have a couple of diastema further back in her mouth but that's the only issue I know of.

Does she have 6 front teeth? Because they seem to be sat very far forwards if she has, and that looks like it could be a corner tooth that never erupted properly. Will you let us know what the vet says?

Yes I'm pretty sure I counted 6, I will double check though.

She has an enormous tongue which could be skewing how things look in the photograph though. I almost wonder if it could somehow be related in fact, it bulges out if her teeth and will bulge out her lips slightly when she is bitted as well.

Sounds extreme but the only thing I can think of is her tongue rubbing enough on that part of her gum to cause some sort of erosion? Though I doubt it could cause such abrasion! That or some weird extra teeth.

Aiming to book in with the vet this week for a weeks time as they are out to see someone else anyway so will report back what they say.

Probably slightly forwardly placed vestigial tushes ( canine teeth ).... most mares don't have them, but they can do, and might well be slightly oddly placed. Suspect they have always been there, but gum/tongue may have limited view, as no sign of erosion etc.

Hi OP, I can't get the pic to load, but my mare (7 years old) has canines in what sounds to be the same place. One side has just started to erupt through the gum. My vet said it's unusual for mares to have canines but does happen xx
