What's going on with filtabac?

I've only recently discovered filtabac for pink noses in summer - sun cream just doesn't work well enough/long enough. And found it also works on mud fever. But it appears to be unavailable everywhere now. Is it just not that in demand in winter? Is there a problem? Are there good alternatives?

Looks like there's a problem with it. It was subject to a recall not that long ago. Not sure if it something to do with that, or if there's another problem. It's not looking like it's going to be back anytime soon.

Think it will have to be a face mask again. Annoyingly the cheap lycra ones fit him best without rubbing but obviously don't cover enough 🙄 he'll be in for a summer of pink patches one way or another

Can you get a zinc oxide ointment? Often sold for babies bottoms in North America. The stuff lasts for hours! Great stuff for protecting ponies noses. I used sun block for humans on my pink nosed horses for show days so they didn't get burnt.

I can't buy zinc cream anymore (don't know why) but I found Sudocrem which seems to be the same stuff (???).

Just fetched it from the bathroom. Under the name is says:

Sudocrem healing cream
Zinc oxide 15.25% W/W
A barrier formulation which helps protect the skin against nappy rash.

I'd say it's the same stuff. Australians used to lather their noses with zinc cream before going to the beach. (Maybe they still do. I don't like the glare of the beach.) It smells a little different but I think it might have a little bit of perfume in it

Attempt number 3...

I never noticed much difference between my now 27 year old daughter's butt cream and the zinc oxide based foundation for humans. I think zinc oxide had a distinct smell to it.

Sadly Filtabac was subject to a recall last year and is now almost impossible to get hold of. Same as ozvet synod which was even better but disappeared about eight years ago.

It’s infuriating.

I bought a big pot a few months ago in a local shop, probably about August. I could find it online then as well but it was cheaper to buy locally.
