My mares have been well behaved during their seasons this year, just a bit flirty but nothing too bad considering. Even their male hunter neighbours have been on good behaviour and not competing in the 'Iam a stallion' game.
However, the other liveries are having a hard time of it. 'Blacky' a young welsh mare is playing tricks on everyone and getting through the fence into other patches. Some with geldings and some with mares. Blacky is turned out with a young gelding, so there really isn't an excuse for it! lol
Anyway, old mare added to young gelding and Blacky (trying to keep the peace!) and gelding 'Ed' is now mounting old mare, Blacky still escapes into 'chestnut gelding' sending him beserk and he jumps the fence into the 4 mares (very polite mares) and he mounts one of them, upsetting the others.
I swear all hell is let lose and I've never seen such a 'free for all'...all these would be stallions, as chestnut and 'Ed' are not the only ones with their male anatomy on show!!
Blacky could well be the culprit as she is the one who gets through the fence - some sort of houdini act going on with her. We can't work out why she is doing this, and as yet have not seen her interested in the boys.
We have survived all fine until now, and can't work out why now the mares' seasons are upsetting the boys, never has happened before!
Should also add a blind (in one eye) mare has become frantic and obviously wants male attention - she tried to climb through the water trough to get to 'Ed'.
If you didn't see all this, I can understand this sounds comical, but actually its a big problem and could easily cause injury.
Anyone else having issues with mares' seasons and geldings playing the 'iam a stallion?'
