just being nosey really teehee.

at current place (am moving when i move to new job)-

good points are-

the yard owner is easy to talk to and get on with and you can discuss things(although you may not get what you want)and she does her best to accomodate everyone which isnt easy i know!

everyone really nice to talk to

the fencing and paddocks are physically safe and there are only 3 horses mx per field reducing injuries.

stables i have got are ok.(bit leaky but big enough and light enough)

neds all wormed at same time on same wormer and fields have to be poopicked/

bad points-

menage at 30degrees and costs £2 1/2hr!(if i was competing that would be an extra £112 at least per month and i wouldnt be able to school properly anyway!)

really bad hacking too-all hard surfaces and very very bad roads and bad drivers!

the fields are unsuitable for grazing horses(or mine at least) in that the grass is very rich-loads of horses have got lami(used to be cow grass, and fertilised every year until last year-as loads of horses got lami-someone said 20/the 30 there got it to some degree last year!) and the horses are hardly allowed to graze it down either.

your horse will be left out on its own neighing and trotting up and down (think if it went mad they would bring it in to protect the ground more than anything) and everyone brings their horses in and out at different times(wierd times to me-i work 9-5 but most people bring the horse out at 11am and in at 2 pm!)

some of the stables are pretty dusty-most of the horses have had a cough in the winter.

Its 5footsteps from my front door, I have no nasty liveries to contend with anymore, I can wallow in my own disgusting mess without worrying about things going missing, I can switch and swap stable and have the radio on my own channel, never have to "book" our own arena out anymore or worry about the damned iveries trying to give me a lesson.

good- YO really nice, liveries all brill, best friend is there, withing walking distance of house, in the peak district with direct access to moors, quiet villages, can hack round chatsworth, great teaching
i can ride the horsies in exchange for helping out

bad- erm, having to fill muck bags as yard is small and no real rooom for muckheap
idiot walkers and motorbikes
some of thehorses are messy buggers
grin.gif
#
yard could be bigger and better laid out

but its brill

good menage, good (and cheap!) instructor, a free horse to ride and its not too far (6 miles) from where i live and work.

bitchy yard manager, busy road just outside and need to cross it to get to field, not so good hacking have to cross 2 big ass roads with horrible ignorant drivers on! xx

Am so jealous of you
cool.gif

Livery yards (a lot of them) are a pain in the arse.......i've actually found one that is practically non bitchy (well at least I haven't noticed anything)

YO is fab instructor, extremely approachable and understanding and facilities are excellent and it's closest I can manage to home.

Down sides are - turnout isn't great

Lol but our hunting yard used to have upwards of 10liveries so I had my fair share of feed going missing, people using my boots/bandages, people swapping my horses around fields, and one day I arrived hoe to find somebody had brought her friend over and taken my mare on a hack
shocked.gif
So I actually appriciate having own stables with non of that to contend with anymore, I really have had some very nasty people her over time, these last 2years have been blissful
smile.gif

Good:
safe fencing, nice stables, loads of storage, super yard owner, only me and YO so no bitching or interfearing etc. ok hacking, dog welcome, very close to home, super access to lots of competition venues

Bad:
No school (yet), can't have option of grass livery, sometimes a bit lonely and would be nice if there was one or two more likeminded liveries.

Current Yard:

Good points:
1. Nice school, well maintained
2. Only 3 liveries
3. Everyone chatty and helpful
4. Rubber mats in stable

Bad points:
1. Grazing is awful! 4 to a small field with no grass and barbed wire.
2. Again o grazing still only going out half day!!!!!
3. Hacking all on roads
4. Oh so expensive

New yard going to next week!:

Good points:
1. Small, only 5 horses
2. Amazing turnout all year 24/7 post & rail paddocks
3. Stable if I want to use it
4. Amazing hacking
5. About half price of current yard.

Bad points:
No school, but can hire one 5 mins hack away

You can't have it all, but you can try and achieve most of the things on your wish list!

good points:

very good value
free lorry parking
excellent floodlite all weather arena included in price (never floods and is racked once a week)
my own two paddocks for only extra £20 a month (£10 per horse)
YO will help out if needed
excellent all off road hacking for miles and miles

bad points:

haylage can sometimes be really crappy
YO can sometimes be a pain in the bum
grin.gif

Good points:

Nice big arena (30x60 I think), separate SJing paddock, indoor school, mini XC course and 450 acres to ride round off road
Fabulous turn out, all year round, in large well maintained paddocks with good fencing
Knowledgable YO who's approachable
Nice big yard (I like big, horse doesn't get on at small yards)
Flexible livery options
Good quality hay grown on yard.
Nice hacking
Yard runs competitions once a fortnight
Trailer storage

Bad points:
I wish people would poo pick more!!

Yeh it's amazing how some people can act - i;ve experienced some almost unbelievable situations at livery yards.......things that I wouldn't dream of doing - but people do them!!!

Your set up sounds fab - oh and I love your coloured boy btw
grin.gif

Good Points:
Just me and YO horses and im more a friend than a livery
Freedom to do what i want when i want
YO house is like my second home
Great facilities
Cheap livery - because im her friend first

Bad Points:
Honestly cant think of any really err its not my own yard!
When i read everyone elses posts i realise pony and I are very lucky.

Good
Secure, all year turnout, hay barn, parking for trailer, running water, well maintained, freindly, always willing to cover incase of illness/holiday for no extra charge, nice stables, shavings delivered to the gate, tidy, close to feed merchants.

Bad
Not 24 hr turnout, owners do interfere a bit, no area for excersising, no electricity (but there is a generator if needed).

good points- only 2 horses, I can do what I want when I want, it's nice and quiet, there's only me there, we have a sandschool

bad points- can get lonely, not much grazing, sand school very deep and absolutely tiny (about 7 x 15m), have to sort out everything myself, so no days off or holidays, no jumps and no space to put any, busy road to cross to go out hacking

Good
Price
smile.gif

Trailer parking
individual turn out but they can chat over fence
I pay what you guys might call part livery but my horse is looked after exceptionally well and I do not have to check up on things.
Nice floodlit arena
Have my own room in a caravan for all my stuff.
It's secure and safe
Fields are well maintained and fenced.
All feed provided
Knowledgeable YO who will also give me lessons at a discounted rate
YO is only to willing to help, came horse hunting with me and refused a bar of chocolate as thanks!
Regular visits by good farrier/dentists/physio etc
Just one other livery but always someone about.

Yard is being upgraded since I have been there (3 years) 3 boxes added, front yard concerted, front stables re-done, arena resurfaced, fencing updated, path down to fields gravelled so not muddy in winter, muck area concreted, stallion posts and tie area created... coming soon entire front yard being rebuilt with brick stables and new walk way, back yard being given own wash off area, caravan going and being replaced with new tack room.

Spoilt me absolutely
grin.gif

Bad
Saying bad is pushing it but
Hacking could be better there' not really anywhere you could go for a canter and 99% of it is on roads, but they are small quiet roads.

Good:
It's about 15 yards from my back door so I can wander out to feed in PJs in the morning.
cool.gif

Nice big stables.
The only horses there are ours so we can make our own routine without having to worry about accommodating other people's horses/lives/equipment.
We often need to limit turnout in winter to save the fields.

Bad:
You have to hack 15/20 mins down a quietish road but with some heavy traffic to get to any off-road hacking.
No school, although we can school in the fields (weather permitting) and there is one 5 mins down the road we can hack to and hire.

smile.gif

GOOD

Fab facilities
Great turnout (too good for fat cob)
The best hacking- great canter +gallops near by
Some nice people on yard to go out riding with
The yard is always spotless
The yard is perfectly maintained
Its close to home

BAD
Very expensive (40 for DIY +hay not including extras ie school +shavings)
Some people on yard are just plain rude - mostly the 20 somethings who have the most amazing horses and tack but have to work extra shifts at the supermarket in secret to keep all there loans and cards paid off!! They all bitch about one another - they hate me as I am a 2 something with a pony which is frowned upon!!! Ha
Sometimes that yard owners are a bit ignorant - they think they are masters of the universe.
The turnout is too good for me but they wont offer me alternatives for my poor cob - all the other billion paddock they have are used for precious show ponies that go out once a week !!
We have a country lane outside the yard that we ride on for 10 mins to get to others places - but its the national spped limit as its flat anf long and cars whizz by with no thought!!

I am one of the really lucky people on a private yard, which is owned by my best friend.Just her horses and mine. And one " livery"-who is never there really.
So no bads- her husband is a builder and made the most beatuiful yard for us.20 acres, 8 boxes tack room. huge feed and hay room allweather arena, some xc jumps, all at the back of her house- so the horses are always supervised and in the really cold weather is about a 20 foot walk in to the house to get a hot chocolate.
I am so lucky. We where on 8 yards in 18months before she bought this place and did it up so know that there are some REALLY crap places out there. We have total freedom and I love it.

Good points
Loads of grazing
Lovely YO
Good facilities
Lots of quiet lanes for hacking
Lots of foals to watch
smile.gif

Most of the liveries keep themselves to themselves
No silly rules
No poo picking (have a poo picking machine!)

Bad Points
Loads of grazing
smile.gif

Could be nearer to home
No off road riding locally
One set of liveries are a pain in the preverbial

Good:
reasonably cheap
only 4 liveries
good grazing
700 acres of hacking
can use massive cattle courts for winter stabling

Bad:
grass is too good
its a working farm, so its a mess
mice and rats
mad.gif

Oops - 'We often need to limit turnout in winter to save the fields' should be in the 'Bad' section... as you probably gathered!
smile.gif

Well only been at new yard just over a week but:

GOOD
-Indoor School and outdoor lunging/riding school
- individual turnout next to each other
- Looked after superbly, groomed each night, bed is spotless etc
- Yard is very tidy and organised which i love
- YO competes SJ so handy to be around
smile.gif

- everything included on full livery so no more running around remembering to buy food etc

BAD
- Urm havnt really checked out hacking yet but heard its ok apart from some busy roads
- Being on full livery, so expensive
- sometimes have to fit in around lessons YO if wanna use indoor but ho hum

Good-
it has a Large indoor school
It has all of road hacking onto the south downs
Good grazing
Brilliant YO
Always a horse to ride even if yours is ill (RS Working livery has its perks)
Escort rides if you help in the RS
Good size stables
Brilliant instructors
Lovely set of showjumps
Yard is always swept and kept clean
Have some great friends

Bad points

Rs yard means you have to phone to find out when school is free
Pickle is used in the RS so have to work around that
Sometimes they decide to "harrow my hand" which involves just throwing the poo around a field with a shavings fork!
1 certain mum of a girl is an absulute pain constantly being rude and generally putting most people down

Good points
Just me (and OH) and YO
Lovely Lovely YO
I get to treat all the ponies as my own
Great hacking nearby
Lovely big stables
I split duties with YO so dont have to muck out everyday
Eleccie and running water
A Kettle!
Its just fab

Bad Points
No school (but working on it)
Pretty far (takes me 2 hours by public transport/walking 4 miles) but my fault for moving house LOL

Good points are.
Lovely owners.Just me and Bonzabean now!!.
bridleway at the end of driveway the beach at the end of that almost.
I can do as i please within reason.
Huge stables,tackroom,feedroom,storage.
My horse is in his own paddock.
Loads of men to ogle at!!.
grin.gif

Bad points are..
To be very honest there aren't any.
grin.gif

Good points:
- In our back garden
- Only me and OH and our horses - no more bitching
- Lovely well drained year old arena - 20x50
- All round T/O - they go out 6am to 7pm all year round
- Can keep it tidy and swept and not have to put up with everyone leaving mess about
- Can go in and change/get hot drink when wet and horrid
- No longer have a car full of tack
- Nothing gets 'borrowed'
- better hacking on quiet fen roads than I've had ar previous yards

Bad points
- the mortgage!
grin.gif

Have to agree with RosiiePosiie - I have a field up the road from my house - 1 1/2 miles and it is bliss....
Only my horses out in the field and I have two stables and a barn for hay and straw...its great..
Nothing goes missing or is used, no one over feeds my horses, moves them into other fields, or leaves notes on my stables giving advice, my horses are not bullied or rugs ripped by other horses and I can do what I like, when I like.

Cons - no school so have to hire one down the road, or school in larger field,
Busy road and have to ride out early or late to miss rush hour traffic, can be lonely if you like riding out with others...
I love it...been there for 4 years now and it is great...suits me fine...

Plus: unlimited all year turnout.

Minus: no arena!! but there is one 5 mins hack away, but its still not the same as having your own..
