whats happening please HELP!

well i own a 3 year old (in december) German Shorthaired Pointer called Alfie we have had him since he was 7 weeks old and he has always been a sweetie love him to bits and so does all the family.he is normally really friendly with people he doesnt no.i always take him down the stables with me since he was young and let him run around why im mucking out and doing stuff.

If anyone walks past the house he has always barked and if anyone comes to the door he will bark until you have opened the door and spoken to that person then he will be quiet and sometimes get excited to see them even if he dont no them.

but for the last 3-4 weeks he has been doing some out of chracter things like when im down the stables and someone he dont no wals on the stables he will really badly bark and growl at them and sometimes show his teeth and i think if i dont pull him away sometimes then maybe he would have bit them.and the same for when someone he dont no comes to the door and we open it he trys to get out there and do the same.

I mean i just dont no what to do because he is never like this always been such a friendly dog and all of a sudden has changed i tell him of for doing it and i am no longer letting him run around the stables always tide up till he goes for a walk i just dont no what to do and what in the hell would have made him like this please please help me and my little alfie

Has anyone possibly went near him or done anything on him when you haven't been about? Would he be a protective dog? And what is he like with people he knows? (not family etc but your friends etc at stables or that visit)
 
when he nows anyone he is all over them like a rash.thats what i thought maybe someone has done something to him i take him for a walk and no one has been near him then and if he aint out with me then he is indoors with family so no one could have done anything to him.he isnt normally like this its just all of a sudden happended over the last 3-4 weeeks i just dont no what it could be normally something like this is set of from something but im racking my brain and there seems to be nothing
 
sounds like he is growing up to me! now got to the stage that he feels he has to protect his own.

Our rottie did this. same age too, ever so friendly to anyone before then, then would do exactly the same. but only noise, never showed his teeth. we were told that it was just him becoming the protector of his family.

Bloody glad he did this as he scared of burgalars one night, it was very scary.

It might also be worth a trip to the vets. A sudden personality chaneg be the sign of various illnesses and if there is no reason for this it might be worthwhile just getting him checked out.

Agree with piaffe, if he's an uneutered male he'll be full of testosterone and we all know what that does to men! Maybe you need to show him you're still in charge. Try stuff like -don't let him go through a door before you, get his food ready but sit and eat something yourself (even a biscuit) before you put his food down as top dog always eats first. I'd do a trip to the vet first to check for anything medical then maybe try a behaviourist?
