Have moved my Coblet into a paddock we have just aqquired, a tennis courts that has gone to waste! He's previously been stable kept at the livery yard (have obviously now moved) and had a paddock to "graze" with about 3mm of grass, so in other words sod all! Obviously I don't want him exploding, so I was wondering what you thought of his weight. I'm absolutly rubbish at assessing weight, so any tips and tricks would be appreciated. Also his crest on his neck, it's firm and narrow, but when his neck is relaxed you can wobble it, how is a crest supposed to feel exactly? I can feel his spine along the top of his back, and if I run my hand firmly down his side I can feel ribs, I just don't know whether his belly is too low or not :S

Here he is:

PS Ignore the willy he wouldn't put it away. :p

PPS He is now sectioned in a strip of field that is poisonous plants free, the rest of the field is gunna be a nightmare to clear! :(

PPS Will try and get some better photos, having some tech issues though :P

Hi
I'd say his weight looks fine although you wouldn't want any more on him! As for his crest not really an expert but from what i can see it looks ok but the pic not ideal for looking at crest lol

Hope that helps! :)

Isn't he sweet! He looks a bit on the round side to me, but its so hard to tell from side photos, and as regards of his willy if I was him I wouldn't be proudly flashing it!! haha xx

He looks ok for this time of year but you wouldn't want him getting much bigger I'd say. If his crest is soft and "wobbles" when you move it that's good, if it becomes hard you need to take real care.

As an aside - is that privet hedge in the background?

Hiya,

The long green one is confier, so have had to make a border round the outside of his strip so he cant get to it.

What kind of excercises are particulary good for weightloss? I do riding at walk and trot, and some jumping (still a novice) but lunge at walk trot and canter.
Bit annoyed really as previous livery yard owner said he needs to put weight on! >:(

Ohh nice just my type (and my cob boy likes to flash his stash too...although his is fairly impressive :D;)). He looks a lovely weight, definately no more on though so with that lovely looking grass I'd be restricting him sooner rather than later. If he's anything like my lad he'll love a good fast canter so do you have anyone available to do the fast work with him? I'm not a fan of lunging esp for fast work and cobby types usually fitten up better with varied ridden work as opposed to in hand. Is the field big enough to section off an area for schooling in?

Is he out all the time ??

I just moved my colt to a paddock with more grass than he hass seen in his life and he came in the night after looing like someone had put a pipe up his bum and blown him up , next morning skinny ribby again !! We have had lots of rain though the last week or so !

I wouldn't want any more weight on his tum. Could you electrick fence a track round the outside so that he has to move about more ? hidden exercise ! I got some fencing off ebay the other day 20 4ft posts and 400m of tape for £55 delivered which I thought was a really good price

Jsr- at the mo hes in a small strip at the top of the field which once hes nommed will become a starvation padfock to put him in to prevent him eating to much of the green stuff :p

Lady lina- yup he is now, though as above the strip hes on will become a starvation paddock once hes eaten it so grass intake will be reduced
