i have been using power phaser. its brill for around the yard and stuff and in our fields. the only time it didnt work was when i went on a hack into a field that was literally swarming with flies.... although they didnt bite him they were still buzzing around
Power phaser... is it availale in tack shops ? or order online? My poor horse is covered in little lumps! I have to bring him in at about 4 every day!!! Poor baby!
Penny, do you use SWAT? All my horses (and the dogs) have pink ears, chests and bellies, if it wasn't toxic for humans I would be pink too.
The Avon Ladies in this area do a roaring trade in Skin So Soft amongst the horsey fraternity in this part of Ontario, mosquitos really don't like it at all. I have yet to find anything other than SWAT which has any effect on deerflies, they simply treat anything for horse or human as a tasty flavouring on their main course.
I am reduced to bringing them all in from 7am-9pm or have sweaty, frantic beasts thundering blindly about the paddocks all day long on still days. Roll on September, and even better, 3 or 4 months of snow
Anyone using Avon Skin So Soft PLEASE be very careful using it.
I spot tested it on my boy, used it for about three days and then his skin erupted in a horrendous very severe allergic reaction. Wherever I applied the dry oil spray his skin cracked open seeping lymph fluid (clear yellowish liquid) which went crusty when dried. He was INTENSLY itchy and his fur fell out .
I used it on my other horses and found that it did absolutely NOTHING. Did not deter flies, gnats, mozzies or horseflies.
I think what works depends on the. Leovet Power Phaser is great but wont stop all of the horse flies. I also use The NAF fly cream/Midge Away on sensitive bits.
Try louse powder. I know it sounds daft but someone recommended it last week and Ive tried it and IT WORKS!!
Just put it on your hands and rub a little into the crest and the dock and under the belly. You can hardly see it and it brushes out. That way you can save your expensive fly repellants for shows.
I've found Power Phazer excellent for horse flies, but it is very pungent.
Avon Skin So Soft bath oil should be diluted at about 2 parts water to 1 part SSS - don't use it neat. I've found it good for midges on its own, and as part of a mixture for other flies.

We've been using Coopers for the first time and really rate it. Power Phazer is also really good. We tried the NAF repelleny with garlic - not only were flies landing as it was being sprayed on, but a little pony in the field was cheerfully licking it off of our mare!
You can either put a drop of washing up liquid in with it and shake it up...... but this will destroy the oilyness of it, or each time you use it give it a good shake and spray quickly shaking all the time
