Any recomended and sucessful fly sprays that you find work please , and also good fly masks that last well? As we are getting into that time of year, also as I live in an area where we have crab flies so any hints on sprays that repell them would help! Thanks for any advice.

We have crabb flies here - no sprays work on them, and if you do spray them with anything, it just makes them crawl even more which sends the horses CRAZY! They have little pincers which they dig in when moving, and it is this that causes the problem, not any biting. All we can do is knock them off, and then stomp on them until they go scrunch!

For the midges we use "midge off" and fly masks by Horseware.

Good luck!

Yeah I have found the only way of killing the damn critters (the crabb flies) is by breaking their shell like bodies between your finger nails, gross eh! Doesn't seem that anything will deter them>

No idea what crabb flies are but they sound revolting!

I use Deosect fly stuff (you have to mix it up and then I slap it all over with a sponge, - read instructions very carefully before use -, and I find it really good and don't have to do it everyday.

As for flymasks I only use Cashel ones now as they have proved to be the only ones the horses don't lose in the field, they have plenty of space around the eye (have heard awful stories of closer ones rubbing eyes and causing abscess from my vet), good fit around the head with soft fabric so don't rub, and you can get ears/no ears nose/no nose, etc and they have a gap for the forelock which must be comfy and looks damn cute! You can get a really good size guide with all measurements on. They are expensive but hey, you can tell I'm a huge fan!

I would highly reccommend equilebrium's field relief fly masks I think they are great- and i've tried one or two!!
Last year i used Net tex 48 hour fly spray- it leaves greasy looking marks but is the best i've come across so far

My Horse gets eaten alive and the only one that seems to work for him is Coopers fly repellent. You use it every other day, its quite expensive but worth it.

The best fly masks I have found are made by Crusader. They fit well and dont move.

Coopers fly repellent is brilliant, I used it on a horse I used to ride because he was so sensitive, it is expensive but you don't use as much, and it lasts longer.

I use Avon Skin so Soft, Soft and Fresh on my girls- i highly recomend it- think it reccomended on sweet itch sites as well? flys leave them well alone and its not chemically. i wouldnt use anything else.

NAF Deet fly spray, with Midge Off if the midges are bad.

Cashel masks are def the best for mine - she's very adept at taking them off (takes her about 30 seconds, then she runs off when I try to put it back on lol). Cashel are the only masks which have stayed on.
