Hi Folks,

I've recently bought my first horse, its a 5 y/o mare. I was given an old saddle for riding her out but its not very comfy. I'm looking for a good GP saddle and don't mind paying for it. what's the best out there new? I've heard corbette cresta and berney but can't find a shop anywhere near me that stocks them. I could get them online but I dont want to buy something I haven't tried. what do you think?

I'd get a saddler out with a selection, but have found Albions and Ideals easy to fit (I have an ideal and love it)

It depends alot on your build, how you ride and the shape of your horse. I've had Barnsby and Albion saddles that I've really liked but they might not be right for you.

Your best bet would be to get a good quality saddler to come out with a range of saddles for you to try.

agree, get a saddler with a selection as its very important that it fits your horse and is comfy for you. i have an albion dressage saddle which i love but when i tried an albion gp it wasnt as comfy for me , so i ended up buying a barnsby gp which fits both of us very well. if you say which area you are in someone on here may be able to recommend a good saddle fitter...

I am a fitter and can whole heartedly agree that you need a fitter. The brands you have been recommended are not well known and sound like they happen to be the personal favourites of the people you asked. They're not top end.

Find a good fitter who covers your area (ask for a recommendation on here? I cover most of Southern England, Midlands etc for www.nativeponysaddles.com but can fit all sorts of shapes and sizes) and work with them.
