My girl had something on her neck many years ago. I got the vet up who lanced it and we had to hot towel it for some time after that to draw anything out..
Sorry not much help really! Hope it heals quickly.

Thanks Lou x - I S'pose it could be a rub gone nasty - I did wonder that but he is currently always in a rug with a tail flap so not sure how he would have managed it ..........

had one on pones chin, used MY wheat heat pack on it 3 times a day for a day or so and it came out then sorted itself out as not as big as it originally looked.

Oh yes I would get vet in to look at it, I always thought not good idea to antibiotic abcesses though as it is better for them to come out. Antibiotics may mean that they shrink in size but not resolve completely

If in doubt get the vet!!!
My horse had an abcess on his chest 2 months ago, i Just hot toweld it over an hr or so to get the yuck out and left it open to the air to dry out. I gave him a general oral antibiotic for three days too. (he was feeling under the weather with it) Every day i checked it to see if there was anymore yuck but i only had to hot towel once more before it dryed and was gone and healed two weeks later, and no blemish!!!
I would avoid creams, and powders!
As strong as a horse!
Hope this helps x
