Hi Guys

We are starting to introduce new foods into lexi's diet

a few foods I wanted ask about was
Is she allowed veg/Fruit? like broccilli peas apples etc?

Which meats are kinder to the stomach as she seems to be a bit meat intolerant at the minute gives her the poos!

Can she have tuna/fish?

I know onions potatos & chocolate are a major no no but is there anything else

Thanks & sorry for mithering!

What are you feeding at present that you feel the need to change? This is my personal choice & I know some will disagree but I use complete dry dog foods so that I can be confident that a growing pup is getting all the nutrition it needs without introducing something that may cause harm. Companies spend thousands getting the balance right so I personally don't feel I can replicate that.

There's a sticky at the top re dangerous foods.

If you want to feed dried, google the ingredients as there are some truly awful types out there. I know companies spend thousands, but some is on advertising and if you can buy it in the supermarket, forget it.

Are you feeding raw/BARF? As dogs can't break down the plant cellulose in veg/fruit, I see little point in feeding them but my lot seem to like carrots so get them as a snack. A lot of people seem to feed veg.

If she's reacting to some meat, stick to chicken maybe as a bland easy to digest staple. Introduce other meat in tiny amounts.

Oily fish is excellent, so mackerel whole or tinned in tomato sauce (unless she's arthritic, in which case avoid tomato). Tinned pilchards are also good. Tuna's fine. Basically, any protein source is good, so maybe try raw whole eggs, the shell is a good source of calcium. You might have to break it to show her the good stuff inside.

she is on RC maxi junior and she loves it but wanted to get some fresher foods into her as im not sure if dry is the best sort of food for her!

She loves carrots & apples minus the middle so just thought maybe i should be giving her a more varied diet! I am going to try her on tuna (only a little bit) tomorrow

She will try and eat anything at the minute!

Thanks

Tuna, pilchards, sardines are brilliant for general condition.
Also eggs, complete with shell if you like.

My fella is 'hot', high protein intolerant, so is on a dull-as-ditchwater, low protein, fish-and-rice formula for older dogs but I make sure what protein he gets, is good quality protein like meat, eggs, fish etc.

Some dogs can react to chicken so only feed small amounts.
Cheese is good as a reward, also sliced up hot-dog sausages.

Thanks Guys

I tried her with a bit of rice last night and that seemed to go down well! Left her with a frozen carrot this morning which she loves & i already give her cheese for a big reward only small piece to start with.

Will try tuna tonight & is tinned sardine & Pilchards ok?

will try her with white fish aswell, i dont think she can handle chicken very well at the minute so I will leave that for a while!

I will surf the net & see which food is the best for her, sorry I treat her like my baby but we dont have kids so I suppose she is! & the cats!

Thanks

Liz

I never knew that potatoes were bad for dogs? ours has left over bits occasionally and often has potato and has always been fine. Whats bad in them or is it if just fed raw?
