What's the difference between freezemarking horses and cows?

Hello

Any horseowning dairy farmers out there?

I'd like to get my horse freezemarked but live in a very rural area and so the 2 horse freezemarking companies in the UK are unwilling to visit me unless I can get a large group of horse owners together who all want their horses freezemarked.

It occurred to me that as there are quite a lot of cows round here all of whom are freezemarked, I could ask one of the local farmers if they could freezemark my horse.

Has anyone any experience of this? Obviously I don't want to put my horse through a traumatic experience, so any thoughts would be really helpful. I think I'd just freezemark her with my initials if I could get it done by a farmer.

Isn't one of the benefits of the freezemarking that your mark will be registered to you, so if someone finds a horse or goes to buy a horse with a freezemark they can check it's background with the companies? If so you're own mark wouldn't be registered.

If its a horse for life then I guess you could do your postcode or their name (I know one freezemarked with his name) so if stolen you'd be able to prove he was yours.

I thought Farmkey did cows? At least I think that's what they started out doing before getting into horses. Used to be MMB Farmkey.

Hi
Yes, one of the benefits is supposed to be that the horse is registered to it's owner through it's freezemark, but frankly I'm not too bothered about that. I'll be happy if my horse just has her own freezemark on to deter any thieves (assuming I can find someone to freezemark her! :p )
