Basically they are more forward cut. SJ saddle are normally 2 flaps (like gp but more forward cut) however xc/event are normally mono flap/close contact so really it puts you much closer to your horse allowing you to 'feel' better when riding.
My butet xc has 4 blocks. to help me stay on and the leather also has a 'sticky' texture to keep my bum in place!
Basically they help you adopt your jumping position better. It's like dressage saddles- once you have ridden in one you won't want to go back!!
Thanks FD, ive been jumping in my GP, which is quite forward cut for a GP, but was wondering if a jumping saddle might help my position better, but i only do maybe one competition a month. Might be a bit of overkill to shell out on a jump saddle
Was just really curious, like i say ive never sat on one or really looked at one properly.
Completely depends, if you have a bit of spare ££ then why not? They are def more comfy and help your position sooooooo much (mine actaully gave me bruises on each thigh one day when my mare put in a nasty stop...it literally held me in place and would have been off over her ears if it wasn't fro the blocks!!) I'm such a bad influence though, anything that involves shopping I will encourage!!
If you are going to any big shows (Badminton etc) this summer most of the saddlers will bring models for customers to have a sit on so you get an idea of the feel/position it will put you in
If i had the spare £££'s then i would definately consider it. I am hoping to go to Badminton this year, so maybe i could drag OH to have a look, although after having spent £700 on a new GP for my boy, im not sure it would go down too well
Sounds like i could do with one though, if your saddle gives you bruises on your thighs if your horse stops, my boy stops quite frequently, might help keep me on!!!
