I have just found a sharer for my happy hacker and we are starting a months trial this weekend. The thing is she wants 3 days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which cuts out my hacking days

How much would you charge for the three days? Also if i was to cut down to 2, just so i could have a weekend day, how much would this be?

Sorry for the numpty questions, he's not a cheap horse to keep, so wanting to cover my costs as much as i can without taking the p, but bearing in mind she wants him almost half of the week (and the good half too!) It has also been a while since i shared anything!

Thanks

L

Mine pays £140 per month and half of shoes £20- every 6 weeks - Only shod in front. This also includes one lesson a week and a babysitting (sharer is only 14) service when parents drop her off and leave her all day on a saturday.

They ride Monday, Thursday and Saturday - Are supposed to leave him happy and cared for ie mucked/skipped out if Breac is in, water hay topped up etc - And they never bloody well do!

I shouldnt take over the post and complain - She is a very sweet girl, and a fab rider!

A livery of mine charges £200 per month for two days a week.

I would perhaps ask more money as they are getting the 'best' days.......

Wow thats a lot of money. My sharer used to do 3 days a week to and I only used to Charge her £50 per month.and I never charged her for shoes either.

I pay £180 a week for 3-4 days. Horse is on full livery so no chores as such. I do whichever days i can do (normally both weekend days) at the moment as she is used by BHS pupils so will get ridden most days regardless.

I would pay less to just hack (but depends if that's all your sharer wants to do) i would pay more to do the three good days though.

For me as long as the price per ride is less than what i would pay for a lesson/ hack at a riding school then i am happy!

Mine is paying £25 a week for 3 days, no chores horse is on part livery, private yard excellent facilities, horse is a schoolmaster and sharer hopes to get out doing elm tests later this year.

Wow - I let mine have the ride for free, as long as he gets good exercise and is well looked after - for me that is the payment! But I am looking for a sharer for exercise and schooling, rather than financial help.

If ned needs shoes (he is unshod atm) then we will split it.

my old sharer used to pay £25 per week and half shoes for friday saturday and sunday. that was about 2 yrs ago i would expect about £30 a week plus shoes now as the cost have significantly incresed since then

Guess it depends on what the livery costs are as well. I know HO pays roundabouts £550 and then with shoes and other bills on top of that.

I think sharing her horse for £180 is quite good!!

I can go to any comps or sponsored rides i fancy at the moment and play around with different bits and training methods etc.

WOW! Thats alot!

It is all she wants to do, he's got an injury so is all he can do, although is a brilliant hack, and pushbutton ride.

She would still be having regular lessons at a riding school too. I was thinking £10 a day, so £130 a month. Think it's too late to mention shoes now, although they cost me £95 every 6 weeks (natural balance and wedges!) Can always see how we get on, and if he seems to go through shoes quicker can add it on i suppose.

Thanks

well i pay nothing for sharing! never been asked for any and its never become a problem. we've got a great relationship which makes it flexible as to the days we do. India is on DIY and unfortunately on box rest due to suspensory ligaments damage whilst pratting in the field. her owner is currently on holiday so i'm doing everything for about 8 days, ordinarily i do 2 days per week. i'm flexible around the competitions she does at the weekends, i have the opportunity to compete as well (although i don't, i just like to play). the owner works free lance with horses, so i often do India on her busier days to free up a little more time to either work, or be with her OH and baby

i dont know if my thoughts to sharing would be different if i paid. if the horse was lame and i couldn't ride then i might feel a bit put out, even if it is the nature of horses to do this to us! well themselves really... you know what i mean!

i often feel like i should contribute but its actually a really nice set up and i feel i do enough bits and bobs that hopefully make up for it .

First off, are you happy with them having Friday, Saturday and Sunday? It's your horse after all and you should be able to do what you want to do with him.

My sharer has Genie 3 days a week, on Tues, Thurs and Sat, she pays me £20 a week but it really should be £30. I worked it out by figuring out how much it costs me to keep her per day and she pays for those days. However she very rarely has to muck out when she's in, as I tend to go up anyway to do that.

I know when I have another horse, I won't have the time at the weekends to ride 2, so it will help me out then, but as I only have R to ride, it's a bit different. I can cope I'm sure. She has said she has days off during the week sometimes, so I'm sure we can swap days occassionally. He costs about £10 a day to keep, and she can ride and play with him, no mucking out/poo picking to be done (am a bit anal on these and like to do it myself!)

You sound like you have a very good situation

I'm doing it for financial help really, although i know when i get another horse (hopefully) i shall struggle with time at the weekends.

Are you happy with her having the weekends? I have to say I wouldnt be, after all, thats when you can have some proper chill out with your horse - weeks can be so rushed, plus its ok now, you can hack in the evenings till late, but it wont be the same in the winter.

I am a little bit cynical of sharing tbh. Have just had someone sharing my horse to help me out with exercise as work commitments were heavy. He is on fully livery, I pay for everything and even paid for some show entries for the sharer, I am able to afford it ok, she couldnt. The final straw was when she asked me to ride him every day. When I asked when I was going to ride him she shrugged her shoulders and said I would have to fit in with her! She then went on to ask if she could have him on loan and he could go on DIY. As she as unreliable with the riding I dont think so, plus I still want to ride him I got rid straight away.

Good luck.
