Just wondering really as some people like to chop and change and others tend to hang on to their horses for life.

Longest time I have owned one of mine is 19 years - bought him as a 5 year old and he was PTS at 24.
Currently, I have one I have owned for 11 years, another 8 years, another nearly 2 years and the newbie since last July.

Shortest time is a couple of weeks - when I realised I had made a complete mistake, overhorsed myself and resold straightaway. Have to admit I have done this a couple of times

Just interested in everyone else.

I have sold one on after 4 days before (I saw a golden opportunity to pay off my student loan

)

Longest resident is my 22 year old anglo-arab, I bought him when I was 13 and he was 6. 16 years later he is still just as naughty as when I first got him - not helped by years of me winding him up!

The shortest time I have had a horse is a week, he was on trial and started rearing so he went straight back! I will have had my horse for 10 years towards the end of this year and my pony who is still going I have had for 21 years!

Hi,
My first horse - Filly (full loan) I had for 18 months. Retired for veterinary reasons aged 23 as a companion to live on a farm.
My current horse - Rosie aged 13 - I have owned for 4 years and she will be with me til she pops it!!

I had Freddy Bear for 8 months - had him put down.

Amy May for 13 years.

Thumper - a year and counting

I started looking after a riding school pony when i was 13, took him on myself when i was 17 and he died in last September when i was and am 25. He was only 12.2hh and im 5ft7 so we were an unlikely match, i more or less gave up riding in this time because i could only afford one horse and he was it. Loved him to pieces even though he was old and fluffy with no teeth

Just got a new horse now so im getting back into riding now

Teddy - 2 years - sold on to a young boy who rode him much better than me!

Pickles - 15 years - bought as a 2 year old and PTS at 17.

Jazz - 5 years - bought as a 3 year old and will probably be with me till he shuffles off this mortal coil. Nobody else is daft enough to take him on, believe me, I've tried!!!!

Longest time - 18 years and counting.

Shortest time, 2 weeks (realised I had seriously over horsed myself!)
Next shortest was 2 years, which were a constant struggle, lots of falls and heartache after which I had to admit defeat and sell her to a professional who dealt with difficult horses.

Mum had a ex racer for 30 years, since she was 4 years old and was PTS at 34

Shortest was about a week when mum had a horse on loan, realised she didnt really want it and the owner wanted her back as missed her too much!

All worked out in the end

Shortest time was prob the big horse a few weeks ago, 1 night!! As it napped.

Longest - my mare who I've had for 13 years - she's with me for life

Shortest - 6 months. I had a wonderful little Highland mare, but circumstances meant I had to sell her on. She went on to do great things and I really regret selling her.

I tend to keep mine for life if I can - I get too attached to sell them. (Fool that I am)

I had a mare on trial for 6 weeks. She was constantly lame and I couldn't keep weight on her! Needless to say I didn't buy her.. shame she was very sweet.
Longest is a year and counting. Poutu is my first horse that my parents bought for me. I want to keep her until she goes to the big field in the sky.

Longest - First pony, Trixie, 9 years and counting.

Shortest, third pony, got him on permanent loan in 1999 as a 20yr old, later found out he was actually 35. Kept him as we loved him, for 2 years. He eventually passed away of heart failure.

Shortest - about 18 hours!

Bought an unbroken 5 yr old TB mare in a mad moment at auction, had her delivered by transporter to a local yard overnight while I thought about what to do, YO and her OH fell in love on sight and bought her off me the next morning.

Longest - had my second pony from when I was 12 to 26, when he finally had to be PTS, and still got daughter's first, second third, and fourth ponies decorating the fields.

Longest time 3 years.... current horse will probably be a lot lot longer as he's my dream horse.

Shortest time 4 days - bought a horse through my instructor from a dealer and it tried to kill me about 5 times in a day by double barrelling me, biting kicking the door, so sent it back to dealers and got my money back. Thank god.

Mine have been three years, two years, and the latest just over six months =)
Shortest? Unless trials count, then probably just six months with my first pony.

Sounds like me and I was in Cheshire....!!!

Bought a horse through my instructor from a dealer...was meant to be 50/50 with the riding school...lasted enough time for the drugs to wear off...then it was boarded up in the stable as kept rearing out and sent back the next morning. Just long enough for my teenage madness of naming everything I owned with its name. Naive.

Spent the rest of the summer or maybe longer??? looking for my very own true love and have had him every since....15 years- he'll stay with me forever and ever. I love him soooo much!

The longest was my childhood pony that we bought as a 5 yr old and was 30 when she died so 25 yrs in total. The shortest was 3 years - I expected to have her a lot longer but she was hit by a car when we were out hacking and so had to be destroyed. My current horse I've had for 6 years and I expect she'll end her days with me too - hopefully not for a looooong time yet.

Shortest was a loan horse we kept for 2 weeks. He wasn't as described, had an acute attack of COPD/RAO (whatever you want to call it!) the day we got him home and so back he went.

I've had my TB for 7 years tomorrow and that is the longest.
