What's the most useless horse-related thing you've ever bought?

I was just remembering as I excavated my horse from under a thick coat of dried mud using an Ostler rubber curry-comb which is one of the best things I've ever bought - the worst thing was a grooming machine ... I won't say the make in case the designer is on the forum but it was absolutely useless for anything except putting a shine on an already clean horse. And it came with some of the most sharp-edged attachments I've ever seen - one touch from those and my thin-skinned horse would have been in orbit.

I sold it on ebay to a woman who wanted it for dog-grooming - hope it was better at that!

So what were your biggest mistakes?

some useless *horse massager* you know then robbinsons things?? the green horse thing, they're useless! is int he garage collecting dust

Metal curry comb.....never use the bl**dy thing....a plastic one does the same job (and more), or the fence if not

Not me but the most useless thing my gadget buying friend ever bought was one of those numnahs you pump air into. A hundred quids worth of complete rubbish!

Sadly for me it was a load of "polepods" - They really wow'd me when I saw them and in principle the idea is fab - but like hell did they work!!! They just fell over all the time - wouldn't withstand any knocks or taps - Gave up on them in the end and went back to upturned road cones!!!

I bought one of those haynet rings that hold your net open while you fill them with hay.

Now, I'm sure it works, but I don't use haynets and feed from the floor. Even the concept behind it is wasted on me. God knows why on Earth I bought it!!!!! LMAO

You've just reminded me of another useless purchase - a set of coloured plastic covers intended to slip over jumping poles to save repainting them. You were supposed to heat them with a hairdryer to shrink them to fit! I did one and it took me twice as long as painting the damn thing would have.

"splintex silver"

Ha ha ha ha

Well, stick on comedy antlers seemed like a good thing at the time but not afterwards. And my all time favourite is the Abbot Davies Balancing Rein which to be fair I was given by someone who had drawn a complete blank with it and the only use I could think of for it was if your horse was into bondage it could possibly get some erotic pleasure from it but I don't really know about such things.

A rubber jolly ball the thing with a handle as my boy loved picking everything up with his mouth....thought he'd love one of these...no interest at all......if any one wants it PM me and you can have it free....but,you pay the postage!

!!

Cheap numnahs, and polypads, The former cos they dont fit under my saddles, and those that do slip off backard, and the latter cos they slip off, and are too thick. Although they'v had a bit more use than cheap numnahs....

Hi,
I've bought a load of useless things, but the most expensive useless thing I bought was a vaulting harness - not saying this is useless but I don't vault!! I bought it thinking it would come in handy for bareback riding. Only used it once and it cost me £120 old irish pounds!!

Talk about a waste of money.

A pair of 'Horse mane Clippers, hand held' off ebay - what a load of rubbish they are. All I wanted to do was clip her mane where her headpeice goes, took me ages and made a right mess, I would hate to have to do a full mane with them. I would be able to do a better job with a pair of hedge clippers!!!! Good job they were only 99p otherwise I would have been seriously peed off. Shame I left feedback before I tried to use them!!

I loved my Splintex someone hates on here....!! Worked wonders on my boys massive splint.

I also bought one of those rubber jolly ball things thinking my boys would love, they dont touch it. Also bought one of those tongue twister things but my horses have chewed round the edges of it so the ball falls out of its holder, and the empty little likits are SO difficult to take out, I mean impossible so Ive given up! They love it but unfortunately its just too much hard work!

Also bought one of those small battery trimmers, there's always heaps of them on Ebay (purple things) which I wanted to use to little tidying like end of tail, bridle path, chin hair etc. but the bloody thing barely cuts one hair! After one use I tried again and then it goes on and off on its own accord (think the battery is loose). Rubbish.

eek, scary! I havent as yet bought anything I deem as useless (unless you count a big heavy weight stable rug for a hairy native...I never used it), but I can imagine i will. I've ummed and ahhed over getting a solar panel light but am too scared to incase it's useless!

Set of draw reins which I have used twice and then decided that I *hate* draw reins (opening a can of worms here I know but this is just MY opinion OK?

) so threw in the bottom of my tack box

Full cheek happy mouth french link snaffle which I used twice and found rubbed my pony's mouth plus she hates joints in bits

Pessoa thingy off ebay that I bought when I couldn't ride after my accident and then realised I was far too lazy to ever bother putting it on (more than 3 clips and you've lost me I'm afraid - gimmie a set of side reins anyday)

A set of 2nd hand spurs off ebay that have wheels and rowls in them and are far to powerful for anything I am ever likely to ride. also are broken (go figure, dunno what I was thinking here. this one-click buying thing will be my downfall)

Set of white exercise bandages which I bought not realising you need to put wraps underneath them. Consequently I have never actually taken them out of the packaging because I know my bandaging skills are not up to 'showring perfection' with wraps underneath...

God I could go on but this post is making me feel sad
