I'm not a novice rider (or so my instructor says) and I live to school
grin.gif
yet after a long break from riding I hate asking for canter in the school and cantering a 20 metre circle genuinely scares me. Before taking a break from riding I had a lunge lesson to build my confidence in canter, was parading round with no stirrups or hands until the horse did a massive buck lol. Great.

I think I'm just a bit odd really and sure I'll be ok eventually now I'm riding a lot lol anyone else else nervous of something silly? I feel so alone lol

I used to be wary cantering my boy in the school but that was mainly because he was very unbalanced and it felt like he was going to fall over - in fact he did fall over once when he spooked as we were trotting, got his legs in a knot and down we went :)

Anyways, we binned the canter for a while and concentrated on his walk and trot and he's now much balanced and rythmical and I'm much happier!

There was this particular gate that I used to hate going through - my horse at the time once walked too close to it and shot forward after brushing against it - nothing bad happened other than me being a bit unsettled but I still wouldn't go through it after that if i could help it!

On my horse a 20 meter circle at canter is pretty scary too!

Some people would say my fear of xc jumps was unjustified considering that I have a horse that's keen to jump the moon and has the ability as well - but we're both green and I don't think I'd do her any favors so won't risk it.

And speaking of silly things to be scared of - at first when I saw the subject line, I wasn't sure if it was horsey releated or not. If it's NON horse related, well...hands down, ESCALATORS....gah...scary!

Going through gates
blush.gif

I hate going through those piddly wee bridleway gates, whatever horse I'm on they always try and bash my knees, which are bad enough all ready.

So I'm always hiking my knees up and pushing off the side of the gates with my hands. I must look a moron but oh well

I hate it when im riding down the bridle way and hear motorbikes coming. They scare the hell out of me and my horse and have no consideration.
my stomach also churnes just before competing, dont know why as i enjoy it - must be adrenalin (best excuse i can think of )

I'm more absolutely terrified rather than just nervous of cantering downhill, had a nasty fall on my old boy where we both went down and cannot bring myself to do it at all. I'm not talking badminton type steep hills, but just gentle slopes. The only time I do it is if I'm doing cross country and I'm approaching a downhill fence that I can't get away with trotting into. Then I do it three strides before and stop as soon as I can afterwards and shake all the way through!

I am terrified of Hacking pure and simple I cant do it, I keep trying and i get the length of the menage and have to go back, silly but thats the way it is I hope one day I can get over it as my boys are wonderful and well behaved to hack out so im told by the people who hack them out for me but for some reason I set hoof outside the menage and turn white, shake and am rather ill...

The only thing that bothers me is riding a spooky horses on a roads and them shying out into traffic (had a few close calls) and l don't like loading horses, well ones that are very unsettled in a trail/wagon etc and are partial to doing something stupid when your in with them, again dangerous and witnessed a few nasties, other stuff you can get back up and brush yourself down or blame yourself for.

I hate jumping downhill... on the flat or uphill is absolutely fine so long as not too big, but the same height downhill.... Makes me nervous beyond words! Fortunately Genie sorts it all out providing I'm good with the steering!

Roll tops.... the first time I tried one I fell off and smacked my cheekbone as I landed face first, then tried again and my horse got stuck over the top of it.

Silly I know!

I get really nervous jumping in our menage lol. I really cannot do it. But I will happily go to local riding club and jump the 3ft+ working hunter course. Go figure lol.

Cantering down hill, hacking my pony out alone on the roads, jumping straight bar type jumps (give me a scary filler or a big solid log any day!), another horse kicking my pony.

This is a major improvement though, as two and a half years ago I was literlly terrified of riding full stop, to the point that I got 50m down the road on my old horse and got off in tears because I couldn't go any further.

Getting my horse out of the trailer!!

He travels brilliantly - almost too well in fact
confused.gif
He's so keen to be off adventuring that you have to make sure no one is in the way if he's going in a lorry - he has been known to drag unsuspecting grooms into lorries in which he does not belong!!
crazy.gif

Anyway, he tends to exit trailers and wagons like a cannonball, as he so keen to see what excitement awaits, so far he's cracked a bone in my foot and possibly my skull (had a large very sore lump for a while - doctor wasn't sympathetic when I finally visited after two weeks)
blush.gif

Maybe I should take him for dressage lessons - that'd stop him!
laugh.gif
wink.gif

Oh, and non-horsey - yeah, escalators - *shudder*
