.....Either on or around horse's.

I was hacking with my friend yesterday afternoon and the subject came up about the things we're scared of when riding. We got on the subject of ditches. I said that was the only thing that faised me being on a horse as me and Jed went down a huge one once and it was orful... and what do you know.....literally 2 minutes later her and her horse went down a ditch. A big one at that. They both came away un-injured. So i was wondering what everyone elses experiences were!

GOt hit by a car about a year or so ago, was very very shaken up, luckily no damage to me or horsey but lots to speeding car!!!

I went across a wooden bridge (about 2-3ft off the floor-across a stream. I had been over it loads of times as has everyone else and not given it a thought. My mare had led youngster over etc. One day my friend went through the stream and I was almost over the bridge, her horse started to mess about a bit so Corroy backed up, unfortunately one leg came off the bridge, I was clinging on and eventually she lost her balance , fell partly on me kicked me in the back and galloped off. When I eventually got her4 she had a huge tear in her stifle and had to have stitches. It was very scary

'twas agony and I was in hospital for a week and recuperating for a lot longer.

Had two bad accidents:

1) Car plowed into me and horsey and we rolled over the top of it. I broke arm and horse quite battered and ran away only to be found 5 hours later, but both made full recoveries.

2) Took off too early for a 3ft6 cross country jump - solid telegraph poles horse and I flipped over the top and broke arm and ankle. again horse was fine!!

Though I am accident prone broken right arm 6 times and left one 5 times, 10 in total due to horse riding!!! Note to self - really must learn to fall off properly!! Have a stupid habit of when I fall off I wrap the reins around my wrist (fear of horse running off as happened in accident one!) and of course breaks my arm! It is a stupid automatic response!! Lesson learnt now - I simply avoid falling off!!!

Broke ankle doing XC then got up stood up and blew tendon aswell, Carried on riding in agony and it ached for a year after

Broke wrist recently when my youngster tripped and fell with me on top, Luck it wasnt worse as he would have crushed me!

The joys of jumping!

i was at a ode in the summer, and my mare stopped at the second part of a treble, and a took the entire wing out with my ear!! blood everywhere it was so painful! Ive now got some missing!

i've had 3 bad things but not that bad compared to some peoples

1) got kicked in the thigh when i got in the way of a bucking fit, nothing broken but still have a dent in my thigh

2) fell of jumping landed on my head, next day very bad neck and was sick all day?

3) got thrown into a wall doing a dressage test and was out for about 30 mins, taken off in an ambulance (embarrasing) had concussion and that was it

nothing that major thankfully,
got bucked off a shitland when I was about 8, fractured my arm in a few places
cracked a rib when a horse fell on me (slipped on tarmac)
knocked out with dislocated shoulder and concussion from a xc fall
torn ligaments in ankle plus big hematoma following a fall schooling over sj's

Broke L2 vertebra very badly 2 yrs ago. It had to be repaired with a bone graft from my hip and a load of metal in my back to support it (spinal fusion). Before that I had never ever broken anything, even though I'd been riding for almost 30 yrs.

Cropi spooked while I was picking her feet out, her back foot came down on mine, broke my big toe in 3 places.

I was riding her in the field, just got on, did up my girth another hole and she spooked, I went straight out the side door and dislocated my shoulder.

Down the beach a couple of months ago she fell, came down on top of me and mangled my hand. Luckily it was not broken although everyone was amazed it wasn't. Still can't get my wedding ring back on though

Degloved my arm after catching the school fence when a youngster cleared off with me. Marvellous thing though it ripped all the nerves out so it didn't hurt at the time. It's certainly made up for it since though.

Brain bruising with assosiated memory loss (temporary thank god ) twice.
Have now been told to stick my arms and legs out when I fall off in an attempt to stop me bashing my head (yes I was wearing a correctly fitting approved hat every time)
1st time was in jump off horse lost shoe on take of and we kind of corckswered our way up and I went pingin off and hit the floor head first, came round had an asthma attack and passed out again.
Second time schooling a lovely youngster who unfortunalty had very twisted front legs , he got them in a not and we both crashed down he wa 17.2hh.

Compressed my spine lost 2 inches in hight got one back again. That was thanks to darling Chloe , she threw me through a trebel combination head first and I took all the poles out with my shoulders, I could hear friends saying I'm sure I heard both coller bones go as they cmae to fish me out of my pile of poles, should really have done that it would have been less painfull than the back injury.

Worst ever injury? Stepped of parents canal boat easter before last, slipped in mud and disolcated my ankle/foot tearing all the ligaments and tendons in the process.

Gotta watch out for those canal boats very dangerous

Uselss fact - never broken a bone ,,,,,,,, yet!

Yikes jojobah - sounds like it should have been very painful though!

I fell off my old mare and broke my elbow joint. Most pain Ive ever felt in my life. Had to have pins in it for ages.

Best part was I was still at school and coz it was my right hand I couldnt write - or do the washing up!

Stacie - good job my lad has big legs to get out the ditch ey!

I pushed a gate open with my foot from on board, my foot got caught in the gate's bolt but horse kept walking through. I ended up sort of doing the splits before being pulled backwards over my horses bum. Bless her, she didn't buck or spook or anything else I would have been really badly hurt. Thankfully I just hobbled off with a hole in my boot where the bolt had gone through it, sore legs, a sore arse and a very red face!!!

I've had a lot of silly accidents, gone over the head and sat on the floor with the reins in my hand, pony spooked and I caught my knee and ended up on my bum in the middle of the road after the pony paniced. Hung my self on a tree branch (that will teach me for not looking where I'm riding).
Been thrown onto a barbed wire fence (i still have the scars to prove it), fallen in a ditch with the pony on top of me.
My most painful injury was falling off my horse for no reason what so ever and breaking 3 ribs.

Out with bloodhounds cantering along without a care in the world, horse tripped and I came off then horse fell on top of me. Tried to get up thinking I was fine only to realise I couldn't pick my head up off the floor. Had dislocated and fractured 2 of the vertebrae in my neck so effectivley had broken my neck. Was back riding 4 months later!!

SJ'ing..... went up to a fence, horse wasnt loking where it was going and took top pole with it, unfortunately where the ploe landed so did his feet and he flipped over I landed on my head (never put my arms out to break a fall after seeing my mate collar bone come through her skin)....... cracked my hat clean down the middle, went numb on my left side for about 20 mins....... but finally finished the course... before crumpling in a heap on the floor.

Neck/back pain was immense the next day, went to see a physio on docs advise and I had shrunk myself 2" by compacting my verterbrae apparently..... much stretching later and all was well...... stick to dressage now!

1. Horse spooked and bucked, cantered off madly, threw me into a wall and then cantered back round, trampling me, kicking me in the face and collarbone, air ambulance was phoned, and had a nasty gash to my neck and ear, escaped with cuts and bruises.

2. Horse that was prone to buck when asked to canter BUCKED about 6 times with me on board, I sat through it all, cantered to the corner of the arena and she bucked again and I hit the wall and got her knee in my face.

3. Fell off jumping as horse bucked on take off, threw me off, landed on my back and got kicked in the arm and back, now have a bad back and cannot do stable work so my careers out
