it looks to me just like dry skin, someone said it could be mites but im not so sure..

its just a small patch in the middle of his neck, no where else on his body and it doesnt seem to be itchy or bother him much!

any ideas would be great, thanks in advance guys :)

If it was mites he would be itching like mad! My mare had a patch like this near her tail when her coat was changing at the beginning of summer. There were no breaks or lesions in the skin so I gave the patch a good wash with Head and Shoulders which worked for her. Check his skin thoroughly to make sure there is no redness before you do anything.

Haha!! Bet your will love you pinching her shampoo! reminds me of when I used to pinch my parents freshly washed and Ironed bed sheets to put on my pony as under rugs back in the day!!! Hehe ;)

haha she goes nuts at me all the time! especially when i take the biggest towels in the house to dry his legs off and stuff after hosing him :D

To be fair I still nab towels and things for my horses now and deny all knowledge when my husband queries the sudden lack of them! Lol... That and waiting till he's gone to work before stuffing the washer full of hairy numnahs etc!! Lol
Back in topic tho, my youngster gets really scurfy but more so in spring and head and shoulders is good :) xx

i wait til no ones in and chuck all my stinky yard stuff in the washing machine, then act the innocent when the filter in the washing machine needs changed..

haha yeah ill give it a go when its not as bloody cold here, cars frozen over and everything the past week! winter is here.. xx
