Saw a horse wearing this today.
It is a loose ring snaffle but where the arms join the rings they are like sleeves so the lips aren't pinched. Sorry not explaining it very well.
It looks like this but the sleeves are alot bigger, going almost an inch either side of the arms.

Its just a normal loose ring snaffle, but as you say, it is designed to stop the rings from pinching. i cant remember the "name" of it, but KK brought the design off barnsby

Nope its definitely a loose ring snaffle.

KatB- thanks I shall google Barnsby to see if they still make them. I would love to try one on my mare.

Unfortunately they dont... this was about 2yrs ago and KK took over the patent I think.... so price went up very quickly!!!! Bit world were the last place I saw to have some of the "old" ones....

I have never seen anything like that before. What a great idea!
I have been wanting to get a loose ring snaffle but I think I might try that instead!

Its official name is a 2 type bit - or if you have the beval (wilkie) version with added loops its called a 3 type bit

These were originally made by Horse&More gmbh, which were then bought by Sprenger.
