Hi all, just wondered if anyone could help? The soles of my mares hooves have become very brittle and have started flaking off quite dramatically. So much so that the sole has declined noticibly and the frog is really prominant. Shes not lame but last night her hooves were quite warm/hot. Any ideas????

Sloughing of the sole is quite normal, rather like exfoliation of the skin. If she is loosing flakes of white chalky looking material leaving a waxy surface underneath I wouldn't be too concerned if there are no other issues.

Crumbly, white sole as you pick the feet out? As far as I'm aware that is perfectly normal and just the sole shedding. Happens all the time. Certainly does on my horses.

I enjoy howking it off with my hoof pick-then I give it to the dogs. The bigger the bit the more satisfaction there is
