Anyone got any ideas????

- Basically yesterday he was turned out a.m. All appeared to be normal. Then I went to fetch him at lunchtime. He stood on the spot (he normally comes to me), then eventually moved himself which looked quite cumbersome. Trotted him up, lame on near hind.

- Only signs previous to this were a couple of days ago he couldn't get left lead canter.

- Swelling rapidly came up when I brought him in and stabled him - Mainly at top of cannon bone. Heat in cannon bone, none in the fetlock or hoof (vet tested with calipers too).

- He has a small wound on fetlock that has been there a good 10 days. Vet says this is not relevant.

- Temp yesterday 39 degrees. Today 38 degrees. Swelling much greater today and extends all the way into fetlock. Heat on coronary bacnd and sole of foot.

-Had IV bute yesterday and injected antibiotics. Bute and ABs (powders) started today in his feed.

I don't know what it is - vet says perhaps infection or perhaps soft tissue injury.

I took him for a tiny walk today and his movement got better the longer he moved.

Sorry, no piccy. Just wondered if anyone with experience would care to make a guess????

Thanks!

Lymphangitis? Tiny wound could be the culprit. My mare had literally a scratch on her hind leg about 2 years ago. She went lame on it and then it swelled and resulted in lymphangitis.

Thanks very much TGM - Having read that report it does fit very much with his symptoms.........
Hopefully I'll know what's going on in the next couple of days!
Thanks all.

We had this at Christmas with Oh big chap- he was crippled and swollen- It worth clipping out the leg as we couldnt find a wound initially but once clipped, we found a tiny scrape about 1/4" long that was oozing pus , we poulticed and the vet treated the same way with drugs. Good Luck!

foot infection I'd say....we are just going through this too, no injury that we can find in sole of foot or any other part of him to speak of, but coronet band now yucky.....where infection is coming out...
