Have you ever gone to see your much loved horse and they just stand there looking glooming, a bit depressed and sad?
My 10 year old mare, who is quite marish anyway, has been moodier than EVER! I've noticed she's drinking a lot more water, but i've put this down to being hot as she's not clipped yet and she's had an increase in hay and field isn't overly green anymore she's on 24/7 turn out with a lightweight rug on.
When i took her showjumping couple of weeks ago she was fine warming up but wouldn't even jump the first jump...which is not like her at all....she's usually the sidewards, nostril flaring 'let me at them' type!! Before when she hasn't wanted to jump, it's been her way of telling me something is wrong......she was fine in warm up but had no interest at all in the ring! Hacking out she has lost her energy, even though she was never the most energetic towards hacking. She just seems gloomy!! She felt very slightly lame in her back leg in trot but she can feel a bit like that when there is no energy in her trot!
I've let her have a couple of weeks off to give her a rest and after riding her sunday, she's still the same!!
She has been more protective over food than usual but its not like she's starved there is enough grass and they have two massive wedges of hay every day between two. She isn't on any hard feed. Might get bloods done because i can't see her looking sad anymore! Anyone know how much this costs and how good are they?
Is anyone elses horse like this? Lack of vitamins? Seasons?
Argh!!!
Thanks all in advance!!
