The girls from my old yard said that my new pony was not well bred enough to go hunting or attend pony club rallies......

Well we showed them how cross country is done on my not well bred pony
smile.gif
Shes only welsh x nf

thats great sounds like a good lil horse you got,i cant stand it when other people put you down at the the end of the day if you know what your horse is capable of and the potential so what!everyone gets to make there mark one day.

i was riding my friend's pony at a PC rally, he was a little 12.2hh dun fluffy thing, everyone else was swanning round on 14.2hh and were saying 'how on earth will she be able to get over the fence?! it looks like a mule!' they then shut up when i popped him over a 2'3"

I used to ride for a woman (totally bonkers old bird but i digress) She used to do dressage and showing and we turned up at one place to do a riden class and the women next to us in a big beautiful box were sniggering at our beaten up old bedford wagon and our ripped rugs....one of them sad "oh god the gypo's have turned up"

They wernt so chuck-a-lishious when we whooped them in every class.... B**ches

I am sorry i am not out to stir anything up just curious about peoples experiences.i got to admit my yard now is lovely and a relaxed enviroment but the last few the adults are worse than the kids!lol.

I'm dreading this exact thing - ive had Stanley on a lovely private yard with 2 of my very close mates and im moving him to a livery yard because i have no facilities at the old yard. Im dreading going back into the "bear pit" althought the YO seems very friendly and switched on...you can only x your fingers though. Ive spoke to two girls on the yard and they seem very nice, but there is an element of bitching everywhere

i must admit i think most yards have that one or two bitcher, but i dont really get that feeling were i am now its mostly an adults yard anyway which is nice and always people to help you out or give advice but one thing i have definetly learnt is friends and horses is not a good mix and believe it or not the friends i had i rarely speak to now,so it does make the mind wonder?and you find that if one friend bitches the other one does and you always get dragged in or down with them then its your name mostly on the line than it is theres so basically you take the slating, sorry about the essay, lol.

Oh I love things like that!
Just to prove that all the money in the world does not build a bond with your horse or make you a good rider(although if spent on lessons it helps ofc

).

Trouble with yards is a lot of people in one place feeling a need to be in eah others business too much.
Live and let live goes a vey long way(thats the second time I have said that tonight, may TM it

Many moons ago, I had a girl slate me to my friend saying I couldn't ride, my horse was a push button ride, he takes me around the ring and that was the only reason we use to ever win.
frown.gif

So I let this girl have a ride on my push button ride.... I forgot to tell her Sammi was the rocket highly strung push button type, he does standstill to gallop in half a second flat wuhahahahaaa (evil laugh).
tongue.gif

She got on him and after several laps of the field in flat out gallop, she had lost control and Sammi cleared a 5 bar gate with her and she dismounted.
smirk.gif
I called Sammi over and then she came over to me, I asked her if she fancied another go on him, perhaps pop a jump or two, and she said 'No, you can have your horse back, I don't know how you get that thing around a ring'.
smirk.gif
Lesson to be learnt.... never judge a book by it's cover lol!

When we got Fany a member of my RC said, "oh should it not be pulling logs?" I was gobsmacked, she is such a sweetheart, perfect for the job she was bought for. Captain took part in a demo for our RC and same woman wrote it up for the newspaper and our news letter and she said he was a "Latvian cart horse recently imported" He is a KWPN Gelderlander! Farthest out of the country he has ever been since foalhood is Scotland, he was imported from Holland!

Needless to say I avoid said woman now. Can't wait to see her face when Fany and Cappy are entered for the dressage! Admittedly Fany just for fun, but Cappy could be a serious contender, at RC level.

Ouch how awful, your horse sounds amazing!

I have a 'friend' who loves to put my horses beneath hers grrr! I am not such a good rider these days due to illness but ohh I love it when we do something well and I put pics on FB and hope she gets envious lol (not that we often do things well lol).

I just take pride that my horses are in lush condition and look amazing compared to hers, that always makes me smile :-)

liking this thread! I'm awake at this time unnecessarily as I have yard bitchiness playing on my mind. In a weird way glad to hear it's not just my yard. I find adults are far worse than kids. Adults are far sneakier whereas kids just come out with what they think. Funny thing is you can tell if the adults have been making comments as their kids (even up to the age of 17yrs) try and join in and make one comment too many.

i love my yard bitches included. we might have to move in the next couple of months and i am dreading starting at another yard........
better the devil you know and all that.

i did have a fellow friesian owner turn around and say she had a dream about washing my horses mane she knew is was my horse and not hers as mine suffers with sweet itch!!!! but let me tell you this winter my horses forlock is looking hot compared to hers hehehehe!!

Very well known Dressage Champion turned round to me and said that my mare at the time was too common to put to foal with a young stallion she was riding.

I didnt even want the mare in foal, it was one of those "oooh they would have nice babies" conversations with the horses owners!!!

Same rider also turned round to me before a clinic and said I dont take riding seriously....err hello? I have no desire to be a national champion, I do it becasue I love it and to be a good rider at a level I am happy with?! I am also paying you... Now shuddup and teach me!!!

Once I was riding a friends little shetland (which is a nightmare so not so suitable for little kids) and got dirty looks from the saddlers assistant(fitting a saddle, which actually didn't fit, for someone else in the manege) and 'oh, you don't own that pony do you'. Me- 'no' . Saddlers A - 'good, you're far too big.' Now I can understand I looked ridiculous but as the pony was running off and trying to dump me I don't think I was really having any trouble - at time time I weighed about 7 1/2 stone.

Another time I got my horse in from the field, she had rolled in a huge puddle and was covered all over in muddy water so I decided to sponge her off (even though it wasn't warm) so I could dry her with a towel and put a rug on her. She's quite hairy and when muddy takes a lot longer to dry. Cue more dirty looks, b*tching behind my back and eventually more snidy comments.

It's a big yard and can be pretty bitchy sometimes, the pushy parents sometimes as bad as the kids. There's one time in particular that comes to mind - between a parent and 13 yo girl- wont put on an open forum though(just incase.)

on a cobby type in the showjumping world (RC only) i get a fair few comments and am often looked down on by 16hh+ ISH riders etc... (disclaimer... not all ISH riders are mean just some! :P)

From a girl on my yard...
"nice box, shame you dont have a nice horse to put on it..." this from the girl whos horse used be eliminated on a regular basis due to it rearing continuously in the corner of the ring... just goes to show looks arnt everything!

my fav isnt really a bitchy comment but will still share...
At a local RC puisance... ring side a couple of spectators were eying up my 15hh cob cross as we rode towards a 4ft high and 4ft6 wide tripple bar... (next to a friend they didnt know was with me )
Mum to daughter: "that will NEVER jump that... no way"
We proceed to ping the fence...
Mum to daughter again: WOW see thats what you want something that doesnt look like i can do it but it really can!"

LOVE IT!

I've had that, too. A friend was jumping my pony top hole on those plastic triangle wings (about 3'9 - 4ft) and two people rode past and said 'that pony can't jump that' to which my friend turned around whilst riding into the jump - pony stopped - rider must be paying attention
tongue.gif
She did go around and jump it next time though.

At an event a couple of years ago I was grooming for my boss. She had just completed the dressage phase and after a 15 min warm up was walking the horse (16hh ID) around before entering the SJ arena. I was stood next to a person who felt it necessary to make her opinions known about the horse, and rider-stating that she was RUDE for walking her horse around her competitors horse (who was stood in the way). She then commented that it was cruel when my boss gave the horse a couple of smacks as she went over the first couple of fences(she was being a lazy madam)!! And then went on to criticise the horses way of going and saying that she did no look comfortable over jumps. I of course stood up for my rider and the mare and was shaking furiously!! I was so angry. dont get me wrong, I have no problem with people having an opinion (i am quite opinionated myself) but when at event-take a look around before commenting!!

One of the best I ever witnessed happened to a friend who qualified for an area-level WH class. She hacked down to the showground in a borrowed tweed jacket and long rubber boots and as soon as the Cheshire Set with their fancy boxes and expensive horses saw her the bitching started. My friend jumped the only clear despite never even having done a full course of that height before, (the flowers in pots seemed to put many off) and eventually finished second. Her horse had cost her just £1800. Ha!!

I've had so many incidents over the years I've lost count!

I used to hack to all local events as we had no transport after my dad died and always used to get looked down upon - didn't stop me winning championships year in, year out in dressage, jumping, xc etc!
laugh.gif

I also used to ride a friends 14.2 cob who was built like a tank but had a fab pop in him. We were at a HT one day and a woman on a massive hunter type rode past and said to her friend "Oh my god, they've brought the carthorse!"....well said carthorse went and won the class and delightful woman fell flat on her face at the second fence. I then had the pleasure of riding past her and commenting that it was amazing what carthorses could achieve. Childish - maybe, satisfying - definitely!!
smirk.gif

Probably the bitchiest thing that has happened recently though is when I was pregnant last year. I had chosen to continue riding (after discussing this with my midwife) whilst I felt comfortable as I trust my horse completely and I was only doing flatwork. Another woman on my yard was also pregnant and was horrified that I had continued riding and commented to me that my baby was obviously not as precious as hers!
shocked.gif
Normally I'm never lost for words but that rendered me speechless.

I'm moving off my yard at the weekend to be with one other person and can't wait to escape the bitching!
cool.gif

I was told I had no horse sense or common sense. I left the yard shortly afterwards. There were many LOVELY people, lots of whom I am still in contact with, but it completely put me off of going up to see my horse.
