Difficult to say. One that really stands out is a rescue dog I nearly took home (someone got there and reserved her before me). She was believed to be a border collie x jack russell, looked just like a collie but slightly stockier with short legs. Blue merle and white - beautiful.

Anything lurchery particularly bedlington/whippet crosses. Have met a JRT/yorkie which is cute as a button for a small dog but wouldn't want one myself.

Crossbred dogs used to mistakes, often given away to good homes, but unfortunately this modern craze for "Designer" dogs has really taken off with the gullible !!
It is a very lucrative trade for the uncaring BYBers, who mix up breeds with no thought of genetic or temperamental suitability, refuse to do health checks because crossbreds have no genetic faults(WTF they are still dogs???! A local Spinone x Standard Poodle has .....Entropian, grossly Overshot jaw, Epilepsy, Hip Displacia, OCD, and a Heart Defect - all inherited conditions.... his owners would love to know where his Hybrid Vigour went!), these people give no backup once they have taken the vastly inflated price asked .
It is no surprise that our rescues and shelters are full of these poor little dogs, if anyone is thinking of getting a crossbred dog -PLEASE go to a rescue, don't support and encourage these puppy producers, every puppy bought from them encourages them to breed another dozen.. which are often dumped if not sold by 12 weeks!!!!! The poor bitches have litters at every season ..this trade is awful ... please think before you buy.
A friend of mine recently took a 2 yr old toy poodle dog from one of these people (she didn't know until she got there) , this dog who was not well bred, had slipping patellas, no eye tests etc . and had already sired over 500 pups!!!!! both pure and crossbred, these super breeders would of Euthanised him if he had not sold!

Lurchers I adore !
But the intentional breeding of crossbreds I abhor !

Dismounts from soapbox ... sorry to rant on but this really bugs me!!!

Mungo the puppy in question was actually bought as a border but it became apparent he definately wasn't pure border and the mother had some rouge yorkie in her somewhere down the line! Not that i care as he is a fab little dog and i wouldn't ever pick another dog over him. Love lurchers, we have some fab ones down the yard!

hmmm crossbreed or not i think the problems you bring up Nell are rife in the dog breeding industry, we have had several shar pei dogs and labradors dumped at our yards with the most terrible genetic problems, such a shame

Yes it is all too common

people think they can make quick money breeding dogs( horses, cats anything that breaths in fact!) and that is all they are interested in - money -certainly not the the poor animals .
Those who do care, take a lot of time effort and money to ensure they breed only from healthy dogs with suitable temperaments to fulfil their role as a family dog, regardless if they are breeding to show or work. They try their best to place them in suitable long term homes.
Responsible breeders are available to give help and advise for the life of any creature they produce, and either take it back or help with rehoming if it is necessary.
Sadly dumped dogs rarely come from good breeders, but from the quick buck merchants who don't care who buys them or what happens to them. Unfortunately no amount of legislation is going to stop this ..human nature being what it is....
You hit the nail perfectly when you say 'breeding INDUSTRY', unfortunately that is what it has become to some -industrial

Humans are a pretty foul race on the whole!

Would never in a million years pay for a cross, but I've encountered a couple of Boston Terriers mixed with some kind of wiry terrier or Shi Tzu and they are adorable--like Bostons gone wrong in the wash.

I used to be a vet - which means I could (actually, I did) write a list of all the hereditary diseases in pedigree dogs.... I couldn't find one I"d want without serious planned obsolescence.

So when I got my own dog, I got a hybrid of three working breeds -she's a lurcher where the sire was working sheepdog x working beardie (entirely different to the show beardies, and sadly almost extinct) and her dam was an Irish coursing lurcher who clearly had some whippet in her....

she's 14 now and still going strong.... and a fantastic working dog in her day.

My favourite crossbreed is Springer Spaniel X Border Collie. They are super little dogs.

I've met a fair few GSD X Labradors who have also been really nice dogs.

And of course, who could deny the lurcher!

The best gundog I ever had was an Australian Huntaway x labrador. He was incredibly intelligent, at first glance he looked like a yellow lab but at second glance you could detect the bit of collie in him.

The bitches owners (my neighbours) had a super young black lab and were very upset when she got caught by the shepherd's huntaway - but all puppies went to fantastic homes and mine wasn't the only working one.

Favourite cross has to be a lurcher or longdog

.... anything with a bit of sighthound has to be good, two or more sighthounds in there is just perfection

No need to go to breeders either.... rescues are overflowing with these gorgeous hounds-in-need

Well said.....I also agree lurchers are my fave X breed....but I would not encourage nor pay for a X breed...but saying that I would never buy a dog full stop...plenty of rescues out there.
