What's your OH's relationship with your horse?

His favourite saying is "The best thing on a horse is a tenner!!"
He knows their names and sex and that they are horses but thats about all! (Bearing in mind we've been married 17 years!) Oh and he knows they can kick!
He moans about the fact they cause him extra work, mending fences, stables etc. He is a little frightened of them but will try to help with the horses if push comes to shove but I avoid asking him if poss as it usually ends up in a row!!! Because he doesnt "do it properly"!!!! (My words!LOL)

However when my old pony was seriously ill and then pts last summer he was in tears and went to see her frequently in the last days so I think its a bit of a put on!!! He loves them really!!! Plus it means he can go to the pub on his own and chat up the birds while Im mucking out etc!!!

TBH He knew when he met me the horses would always come first and I think he enjoys the freedom it gives him to do his own thing. If I buy a horse, he can buy another car!!!! Hence why I wont buy another horse at the moment!!

But he is really supportive of me and will always encourage me with them, so I really think I'm very lucky.

But I suppose Ive always been the same about his cars.

OH likes the shetlands but thinks Chum is a grumpy git - which is true

OH comes over all knowledgeable after reading H&H so it is quite funny to see a 14hh pony take the mick out of him, dragging him to the grass verge when being turned out etc

my boyfriend is pretty much a horse whisperer....very irritating, considering it took me (with a lifetime of horse experience) 3-4 years to really win my horse's affection, and it took him (no previous horse experience) a week! he's great though; he'll look after her for me if im not around, and he built me a stable block (!) and a nice yard fence. not a rider yet, but he has his heart set on buying a little coloured gypsy cob eventually, so watch this space lol! (he's already mentioned bowler hat, waistcoat, etc

OH is great, he will offer to do Max for me if i am tired, or if he thinks i should have a lie in.

He will poo pick, do water, feed ect, without question. Gets cracking on mucking out the second the stable is empty.

If i want him schooling he will hop on and do it for me. And if i want a lesson i get one.

He is never jealous, and encourages me to ride as much as possible.
Perfect!!!

can you clone him missugoopy? You could make a fortune selling clones of that one!

The one thing my OH cannot deal with is the concept of shows. He's not too keen on grooming. His idea of riding would be to get horse from field, leap on it bareback with a headcollar and gallop off into the distance....

OH can ride and he had horses as a kid on his farm. He will ride if the horse bought to him all ready to jump on to. When I go away with work he does muck it out for me, and he fixes my lorry
smile.gif

He does think though that all horses should be made into sausages!

well.... my OH doesn't know I have a horse! Oops! He is working abroad at the mo so I am going to breaking to him slowly.

He knew I had one on loan and was fine with it though he did say "Enough of the bloody horse" to me on several occasions. He was proud when I did my first dressage test and told all his friends about it.

He'll just have to deal with it TBH, He's been away for the last 18 months, so quite frankly he should be grateful it's 4 legs & not 2!!

He has his own, but his relationship with my horse is that they tolerate each other. She thinks he's competition for affection and I rather get the feeling he regards her in the same light. She takes the mickey out of him if he rides her, but will let him lunge her and look after her. He is convinced she hates him but wouldn't see her do without....!!

My OH knows I have a horse and knows his name but refers to him as the thing or mentally unstable one...(becuase he shied at something random when he first met him)

He has seen him maybe 3 times in two years and quite happily has nothing to do with him. He thinks horses smell and are boring and would much rather watch sport!!!!!!!!!!!

He has no resentment at all and actually loves the fact I am out with Bert and not nagging him to stop watching telly and go out and do something with me! LOL

my OH is fond of my ned - he buys me stuff for him if I ask nicely (the ocassional rug, huge wheelbarrow, stuff like that) and will go down the yard from time to time to bring ned in and feed ect.

he can change rugs, make up feed, fill a haynet, fill water buckets, poo picks for bribes (usually food orientated) and will catch and turnout, oh and hoof pick. Point blank refuses to muck out though.

He doesn't resent him (be silly if he did as he bought me him in the first place!) and refers to him as a good sort.

so it s all good!

My OH knows she is bay, thats it! Oh, and her name...

That's about as far as my OH gets too!
He likes him but from afar. Darce is a bit nimble on his feet and dances a lot which puts my OH off as he mistakes the dancing for potential opportunities to be kicked.

So OH tends to stay about 10 ft away at best. He'll hold him for me at a push on the rare occassion that he visits him.
He also knows how much he means to me so never looks for me when i'm hours late home from the yard. Never expects me to have dinner on the table. He'll help with the odd haynet or waterbucket if I am really desperate and he'll go and say hello to him if I'm away with work.
OH knows that Mr D gets all my xmas presents too.
He isn't remotely jealous at all
smile.gif

Lucky me!
grin.gif

And the last thing is when I'm really tight for money he'll never see Darcy go without something he needs. If I get totally stuck he'll buy him some feed etc (This has only happened once)

My hubby adores Cropi and she also adores him. he spoils her rotten and gives he sneaky hugs. He also is a bit of a horse whisperer and rabbits away to her and I swear she listens.

He is a fab poo picker, rug changer, feed maker upper and hay net hanger upper. He mucks out a mean stable and when I disclocated my shoulder a couple of years ago he mucked out 2 horses and looked after them (I was allowed to go and watch!!) for nearly 6 weeks.

He is a total star and never moans about the amount of time I spend down there.

My OH used to love my old loan horse and even rode him on occasion but the change to a slightly nervy TB has caused him to retrete back to the comfort of the sofa, when he does venture to the yard he just plays with the dog whilst refering to Jack as the "Ginger nutter" or Pedigree chumb" he has tried to get close but Jack doent help his case by darting off in the opposite direction if anyone he doesnt know really well comes anywhere near him and god forbid any strange person who wants to touch his head! And he will never understand why we spend hours chucking poo about when you can pay people to do it - He seems to forget that it would be our money paying for this!

well when we first started going out 10yrs ago i got him riding happily a few times but now he sees my mare as a luxury/expensive/potentially dangerous hobby
frown.gif

the most i could get him to do at an absolute push is drive me to the yard, he is not interested and would not do any chores for me
frown.gif

But thats the way it is, both horse and oh are here to stay, albeit separately, i think he gets miffed by the time i spend up there

My other half has become very jealous of the time I spend with my horses and how much I care about them, although he knew about both these things before we got together. He doesn't mind horses in general but isn't interested in helping with the mucking out although he's happy to groom make feeds etc

my oh made me buy my boy, i didnt even go and look at him as i had had enough of looking at horses and given up so she went with eaglestone, i was hoping theyd say no but they both came back in love, i went up the next day and still wasnt smitten but oh convinced me to buy him and put up the extra funding, best decision ever made. he is amazing, best pony ive ever had the pleasure of riding (altho i love alllllll the horses/ponies ive ever ridden...well bar one or two haha) and we did our second show today and he was a star. all the judges and all the competitors comment on him, cant believe i nearly left him behind. shame my boy isnt so thrilled when oh rides him, ears are back and behaves well but no so keen. feel very spoilt today as oh's mum bought him a wonderful jwhittaker headcollar/leadrope as a treat, nice!! im off to spain next week just for 3days riding in the mountains and oh is STAYIN HERE TO LOOK AFTER HIM ah bless. spoilt.
