When are we allowed to travel horses again?

Can anybody tell me definitively? We are wanting to box out to the beach etc, totally fed up of hacking from the yard now but we've been very good and not been anywhere for months!

Thank you. I'd thought that was the case but a friend thought otherwise - I envisage a lot of horseboxes on the road on the 29th!

You've always been allowed to travel a horse for exercise? Or is that only in Scotland, some RC's in my area have continued to offer training (albeit private lessons).
In England coaches have been able to travel out to clients yards to do one to one lessons. RC sessions start again after 29th March round here.
No arena hire, no travelling to coaches yards, the only thing permitted is to travel for horses well being which interpreted by most means that if you dont have an arena or hacking from yard.

Those who have ignored it in our area have had short shrift from police at local beauty spots.

MLC, that's bloody appalling! ?? So selfish!

I could turn your hair white TFF with my observations...it’s as if lockdown and stay at home message doesn’t exist....
Its already on it's way to changing!

One yard locally got 'shopped' by their infuriated neighbour, stopped them immediately, they have a huge arena and access to hacking, but that wasn't good enough. £200 fines dished out to the 4 twenty somethings at a beauty spot worked though.

Surprisingly enough though the YO has ...this weekend...said no one can leave the yard now because of equine flu virus potentially coming in from Valencia. I’ve heard of no cases near by and my vet isnt “on alert” but YO daughter wants to show jump abroad later in the year??

I'm in Northern Ireland and a bit surprised that a local yard (not mine) is happily posting pictures of group excursions to the beach, a different equestrian facility (who must be accepting payment for it) and the local cross-country gallops. Local advice from the BHS says no exercising outside of a bubble or with one person outside your household.

Boringly, in our yard, we are actually following the rules and I am (a) a bit jealous and (b) a bit cross that they are happy to break them like this. I am not going to tout on them though. Specially when i watched the Rangers fans shenanigans in Belfast yesterday online. Doubt any of that lot will get charged.

I'm utterly fed up with people posting photos of trips out on FB, I know they've boxed there. One well known dressage page even posted a pic of hers & a friends horse in her box yesterday. Yet I've parked my box up and stayed home for months.

Also hacking out in groups of 7/8, if you're going to do it have the sense not to broadcast it.

Mind you, that pales into insignificance compared to what happened last night with the football in Scotland.

Just to add I have kept absolutely to the rules and agree 29th is earliest.

It's a good job the virus still appears to be pretty bad at transmitting between hosts outside. Won't be for much longer if people keep taking the pee though. One large gathering too many and we'll have a strain that's worked it out.

One of my foals(yearling) was picked up yesterday. She has been ready to go since Nov, but we delayed it due to covid
I'm confident with both parties movements due to animal welfare

I've been encouraged to take my horse to a venue for 'welfare' reasons. I have an arena and hacking. I have not gone.
I know an elite athlete who is allowed to travel for training, made a point of posting about it so people could distinguish between her boxing for gallops and prior going for jollies.

I’ve seen so many “influencers” on social media taking their horses to their trainer’s arenas when they have perfectly good arenas at home.

There is a certain someone up here who has continued doing arena hires and individual lessons pretty much throughout at their own place because they are too lazy to travel away from home. So people have to travel to them and they aren't fussed if you are from within the local council area or outwith it. Money is money to them.

Well I've been very good and not been anywhere except local hacking during this current lockdown. I do know someone who has been boxing her horse out to hack only but he is terrible with traffic so could be argued that it's for welfare as all hacking is on roads at her yard. I have seen people out in boxes/trailers and it's annoying, my friend who I share a yard with has asked a couple of times if we can go to the beach etc but I've not been prepared to risk it.

As for the equine herpes virus, if that arrives I wonder if people will stop travelling, they couldn't do it for humans benefit!!

We live in Wales and the rumour is that the 'stay at home' restriction will end on the 12th March - possibly 'stay local' after that, and then open up the whole country properly prior to Easter......

The 'stay local' may only mean a 5 mile radius but still opens up possibilites - so fed up of hacking the same routes.....
