the pony not me!
I wanted to take the boys pony to his first show at the end of May, just a lead rein beginners class as my little boy who is four has only been riding for about a month.
Harry Hoof is a bit dandruffy, dusty, his trace clip is growing out albeit faster on his neck than under his belly, his new coat is growing through really dark bay almost black but his remaining winter coat is quite a shade lighter, we have only had him just over a month, he gets groomed everyday but I was hoping that a bath might encourage any remaining winter coat out and also make him look a bit smarter, is it too cold to bath now? im tempted just to cover him in shampoo and let the rain work wonders (not really!)
I have no idea how to include a photo but when ive worked it out will post it!
thanks, any tips greatfully recieved!

I've been bathing mine since March  one of them is grey and I show her so have no choice (other than not going). I boil the kettle so the water has the edge taken off it and make sure I towel them off and put a waffle rug on when it's not warm/sunny. If you don't have electricity then maybe a couple of thermal flasks of hot water?

I bathed mine at the beginning of March as I was taking him to a show and boiled the kettle a few times and put a jute on him afterward to wick the rest of the moisture away and to keep him warm. He's a stocky 5 year old Welsh D who had been living out until the beginning of February and is unclipped. He needs another bath now really as he's been turned out in the school/lunge pen quite a bit the last few weeks due to lack of turnout from the rain and is really dusty. As he was most unimpressed with his previous bath, I think I am going to hot cloth him with a drop of vinegar instead as this *should* hopefully lift most of the grime out of his coat - perhaps you could do the same if you're worried about bathing?

The one I rode today was bathed this lunchtime! He had been out and made him self look like a mud monkey and I was booked in to ride him with the kids instructor there so mud pony impressions were not apreciated. He survived being left in with a cotton sheet on until I got there. He has a blanket clip that's growing out and has been naked when ever its been dry to help shift his belly hence the mud.

I bathed months ago.....so long as it's a nice day like today (lovely in the south) then go for it! Should be real nice by end of may :-)

Thanks all, I will give it a bash this weekend then, weather permitting, I am hoping he isnt as naughty being bathed as he is with the farrier!
