Pup is now 11 weeks old and chewing for England, from monday we are slowly going back to work to kind of ease him in, so monday, tuesday and Friday we will be at work and i have wed off, and OH has thursday off, dow walker will be here on work days for an hour from 12.20pm - she wont be walking him but will let him out to go to the toilet and give him lunch, but my question was to stop him getting through about 2 toys a week and chewing slippers/shoes etc what can I give him, can a start with some small pigs ears yet? is there anything else- we have a kong but he finishes with it quite quickly.

Pigs ears and rawhide chews are a good option. It is years ( well nearly 13) since I had a puppy but gave Sweep chews etc from the start to keep him occupied as Kongs and Crates didn't exist then and they worked for him:) he never chewed any furniture or anything he shouldn't have done despite being left alone from 8 weeks old.

Yeah I know I'm a cruel mum but he is a spaniel - hecwas never going to be well adjusted....;):D:D:D

I might be wrong but i think pigs ears can be quite fattening so prob best kept as a treat, Bob gets them once or twice a week. Best think i found was Kongs, i stuff them full of some of his dried food and Primula, leftover dinner - mash potato, spaghetti, tuna, yogurt...list is endless, then FREEZE it, takes them even longer to enjoy!

I was advised to give anything except rawhide as they can't digest it....

To just about from the start (8 weeks) Harley had pigsears, bacon bars (that's that the shop calls them!) and paddywack. He just chewed at them. Oh the days when a pigs ear would last a week! Now they last less than a minute!!!!

A WEEK?!! Blimey, Bobs pigs ears have never lasted an hour! :-P!!

My dogs always eat raw things such as - bones, pigs trotters, ribs, chicken wings, pigs ears (cooked and raw). All of our puppies have eaten raw food so I think your puppy will be fine eating a few cooked pigs ears. :)

My beagle goes mad for pig's ears, but it has to be noted they are quite fattening so he only gets one as an occasional treat as he's prone to being a porker!

Might be worth trying the local butchers too, they often give away bones or charge a token fee. Unfortunately my dog wasn't interested in them, so they stunk up the house for nothing. Spoilt lad  ;)
