take anyone cos you're glad of the business or are you choosy. I turned away a lady last night just cos I didn't like her and didn't think she'd fit in. She came across as very opinionated and I could imagine her causing problems in the future. I maybe entirely wrong but I'm not desperate for the money and would rather get the right person.

Maybe i'm not giving her the benefit of the doubt. Any thoughts.

nope, i used to be picky and i think that if you want to keep existing customers happy you have to think about how new people will fit in.

As a 'client' I think you should be picky, I have just left a yard where the YO was sad to see me go and said he always loses the ones he doesn't want to leave, and not the one's he does. I left because of the one's he does want to leave! But he doesn't have the bottle to boot them out!!

I would be picky - if you can build up a reputation as a nice yard where there is no bitchiness and everyone is happy with each other, then you will have people queueing down the road to get in!

Where I am the YO says that she can cope with any horse but if she doesn't want the owner in her lounge then she doesn't want them on her yard. This principal works really well, the yard is never bitchy and everyone gets on. So as a livery I would appreciate you choosing your clients.

Yes choose!
My yard is so horrendous im moving at the end of the month and I cant wait. My yard is full of very opinionated and controlling women (not all are like this but a lot of them!) and they pretty much make my life a misery. I feel like im on eggshells around them, i find it very hard to stick up for myself and they just walk all over me, constantly picking at me and moaning at me. They run rings around the owner too, they basically run his yard and he wont ever be bold enough to ask them to leave, he just runs in the opposite direction when they approach him for a moan and a whinge!

The yards I have been 'chosen' so to speak I have got on great with everyone, ive found them to be well run and friendly places where I have fitted in well.

for a stress free life you would be well advised to choose who you want and who you dont. I have a very small yard where every livery fee counts but Id rather have a quiet life than the extra income from a livery who makes life unpleasant. I had some people turn up to see the place etc and I sent them packing (much to their disgust). They arrived and without asking .can we.........???.et their lab out who set off to nab my hens. When I objected they told me that he did the same with the pigeons in the townsquare and had only managed to kill a couple so it was no 'big deal'

People change ........ and I would recommend that you have a written contract with each of your liveries which is signed and dated by both of you with each person keeping a copy of it.

oh definitely choose...good livery yards are few and far between- round here anyway

old yard used to vet people and generally was a really nice bunch. then they stopped vetting people (new YM was clueless) and it went uber bitchy hence why i left. new yard seems great. yes there is the odd word here and there but YO is on top of everything- place only been open 6 months and someone got asked to leave already for being a cowbag
