Just been out and got a new skull cap.

Just over a year ago I had a fall where I had concussion for 5 days after and said hat has had various tumbles from the fence and it's hanging peg since! And I've still been wearing it! Oops.
Took my silk off it today and realised just how scratched and duffed up it is, and had I come off in it, I probably wouldn't be all that protected by it. That and the fit of it has gone drastically downhill.

I now have a lovely new Charles Owen J3. Very very nice fit, and really like the extra padding at the back by the nape of the neck, feels a lot safer than my old hat. Quite liked the Pro II, but for it to fit width wise, it was too big up front but hey ho!
Got a free silk with it too, which eases off some of the   my bank balance will have to deal with..

So, when did you last replace your hat? And reflecting on any bangs or falls your current hat has endured, do you feel is does need replacing!?

Lizzie :)

Last weekend I finally updated from the old skool skull cap I was given when I started college 15 years ago :o

It had so much movement in it that although I hadn't had a fall in it, it really wouldn't offer much protection now.

So went for a black Harry Hall legend - I love it!

Last August after a fall which resulted in minor concussion, hat was only 6months old. Not sure what annoyed me the most the fall or the cost of a new hat but better that than my head. I would replace after any time i have hit my head as a result of a fall. Fortunately although hit the deck a far few times only banged my head once then. Previous to that i gernerally replace every 18 months or so as the fit goes and everyday knocks etc.

I replaced mine last year - I came off whilst jumping - I hit the wall upside down after being flipped out of the saddle by a sharp left turn and landed on my head. No harm donw though although it did look rather funny Im told :D Any excuse to get a new hat:D

October - after I knocked myself out landing on my head. When I came round I told the show organiser off for not watering her field first cos it was blimming hard to land on ;)

2011.

New jockey skull and new velvet hat. Hadnt fallen off in either of them, no bangs or drops. But I keep on top of having new helmets quite regularly.

August 2010 and I've had a good few falls since then including on my head. I do regularly apply pressure to the sides though to listen for any cracks (none so far!) so all is good hopefully!

I had to replace mine last year after leaving my hat in the stable. Damned mice chewed through the harness. It was a Dublin Onyx.

My "new" one is a Harry Hall. Can't remember what model but it's got a silver vent up the front and is extremely comfy. I love it.

i only just replaced mine in the summer.... as my old one had become too big.... as all the padding had withered away...!

its only when i actually stopped and thought about it that i realised i bought that hat for x.c lessons at uni... aprox 10 years ago!!!

loved that hat too. :( it saw the ground a few times.... but i never gave it a second thought!

im a sneak though, tiny head means i can order cheaper kiddies sized hats!

I replaced mine last August, I fell off my mare which was my own stupid fault, although it was only in our school I was concussed and my hat was making a cracking type noise when I squeezed it! I was quite annoyed as I'd only had it for about two months! That's what it's there for though I suppose!!
