Hi, I know this has been asked previously, but I am a first-time youngster owner! I have only had adult horses, I now have a baby pony!

He is 14.2hh currently, and has grown about a hand in the last 18 months. He is still bum high, and still not very filled out although you can tell he will do!

When did yours finish up? Both up and out. Tia xx

Depends on a lot of things if well started and well fed most stop growing upwards at 2 or 3 but with a poor start anything up to 6 or 7 if they are lucky the front end levels up to the back but not all do. They do get wider for ages anything up to 10 to be fully muscled and a final mature looking

My 14.2hh cob evened up and stopped growing upwards at about 6 1/2yrs. He's just turned 7 and I hope there's not much more filling out (widening!) left to do. He was very immature when I bought him as a 3 1/2 yr old.

My lad grew in height until he was about 6, between 6 and 7 is when they do their filling out and maturing. They then do the last bits up to around 8. You usually get the Kevins during the maturing stage. If you have a super pony 4/5 that's what you will end up with, at about 71/2 to 8. 5ish to 71/2 is the point you want to sell them to the meat man ( joke) it's worth it however.

My lad was a pain but is now a fantastic horse, will carry children like they are glass and then up the game for an adult. As a judge said at a show recently , as my pony carried a five year old novice rider off lead rein ( with an adult close by) "that pony is worth his weight in gold"

My girl came from travellers and hadn't had a good start. She'd already had one foal and was in foal when I got her (she was 4). She then had a horrible sarcoid saga. When we finally got her sorted and back into work she really flourished and is unrecognisable from when I got her. She didn't stop growing until she was 9.

Thanks everyone! Looks like I have a good 3 more years of growth left! Even if it is just levelling up and filling out. I can see me going through a fair few saddles to haha!

Beth206, my boy looks similar to your mare, pre adolecent ponies :)

Mine isn't a heavy cob (we think cross new forest or tb) But at just turned 8 I'm hopeful she's now finished growing- although she's finished slightly bum high so if her front end could level out that wouldn't be a bad thing! She was level but much weedier and shorter when I got her at 5.
