I'm looking at buying my first horse in the near future and have been wondering how long i could leave it before the same horse i could get now would be doubled in price.
Will prices go up by much and for how long? When do they level/come back down?

Thanks.

I would say pretty soon. I always use the number of horses on horsemart as an indicator- in summer it reaches about 3800 horses- its now about 1050 and went down to about 700 over xmas!! More horses there are, the higher prices seem to be. I'd say April will see a hike but could be wrong.

And also, keep your fingers xed for me tomorrow, I'm going horsey viewing!!

i would say spring would be prime time for competition horses and i guess most horses really because its generally cheaper to keep horses in the spring/summer than winter but it depends what type of horse you're after. also the prices have been pretty low anyway because everyone's broke.

I haven't been aware of them being lower at all when I've been looking recently.

They havnt tbh,but they havnt been selling either unless they are in the upclass or lower market, due to recession and just people skint in general mid priced horse sales have suffered!Friend has been trying to sell an amazing little horse since last yr,started off at £8k and he well worth that, she dropped him to £5.5k and had not a single phonecall

Unbelievable!!However i do think if you can get them fit now people start to take more of an interest as they can go out and compete from march onwards

,people if they are looking want an easy summer before the winter sets in
