When do puppies stop chewing?

Morgan is now nearly 2.5 years old, yet she still cannot be left in a room with a coat that has a zip or toggles. She simply cannot resist them! She 'nibbles', and she does this with her own toys too - rather than really chewing them, a lot of the time she just uses her front teeth, especially on the squeaky ones. Mad!

My sibe will still chew up various things if she's left alone in the house for periods of time (shoes are a favourite) and she's 4 this year. Equally, she's a breed that aren't into being alone so Ive always expected it (and she is caged when I need to pop out now).

Personally, I think some keep the habit for most of their lives. Whats the breed?

Boxer x Golden Retriever. She is the lovliest dog in the world, and you can trust her with anything except zips and toggles. Oh, and hazelnuts!

She is rarely alone, except at night - that is when she strikes...

Some dogs are perennial chewers. I know someone whose two-year-old Lab took apart the leather sofa.

If it's at night, how would you feel about using a crate? Has she ever chewed a zip clean off a garment?

Echo what prose says, at that age you may find she just wont grow out of it.

My sibe is crated when I go out. She's never on her own for long and the crate is huge. Whilst I would prefer that I could leave her the run of the house, I just cant do that without risking her destroying things (she'll jump on tables to get things off and she can open most doors).

My dog likes her crate.. she knows it's her space and i have no problems with her using it. It is an option for you. The only problem is, they take up a fair chunk of space and are a tad unsightly

It's any time the opportunity arises! I use a crate when I go out, but wouldn't want to shut her in one all night so she stays in the kitchen. It is just a case of being vigilant and not leaving coats over the back of the chairs. She normally nibbles the first two or three inches, and prefers brand new coats. My yearling ripped a coat flap off my one and only Musto jacket the other day - maybe my animals are trying to tell me something about my clothes...

Ah, Morgan lulls me into a fale sense of security by lying around the house like an inert bundle of washing, then springing into action when she spies a zip/toggle and is alone!

My sibe is like that too. When Im at home, she's lovely. Providing she's walked, she will happily entertain herself with toys, or snooze.

It's not always that she'll chew when I go out.. it seems to go through phases but when she's feeling that way inclined, she'll get on the kitchen table to pull things down or get on the sideboards

The only time she's really on her own is when Im riding but I really do need to crate her then just incase. Ironically, when she has chewed something she KNOWS that it's wrong because she'll be hiding somewhere when I arrive home

Its not so much a problem for me at night since the dogs are both in the bedroom with me and she tends to settle quite well.

Her particulate favourite though, is a good pair of shoes ! Nothing finer in her world !
