I sold my mare before Christmas, I loved her to pieces but she was far too much for my novice OH, and we already had 2 horses, couldnt afford 3 !
My OH was absolutely heartbroken when we sold her, but she was just being a pet basically because she really took the mickey with him.

Anyway I had so much interest for her, but I only wanted her to go to the right home, in the end the home was more important than price, and Wow did I find a good home.

Her new owners took her to a show yesterday and she had a 1st and 2 2nds, at her first show! She also looks brilliant.

Im so so happy that she is happy and has found her niche and her new owners love her too.

I still miss her so much though, we are going to see her in the summer, but Im wondering just when you stop missing them, if ever!

Here she is yesterday, mixed emotions, miss her terribly but so happy at how well she is doing.
Considering she was at the sales just over 2 years ago looking half dead, Im so pleased she has another chance, The poor mare has had so many homes, so happy she has her forever home.

It's hard, I lost one of mine 5 years ago and still miss him to this day.....It is getting easier, but still have my moments....... She is a lovely mare....

I sold 4 horses 5 years ago before I emigrated.

2 went to my best friend at the time... 1 went to her friend and another went to a local livery yard.

Regretted it almost instantly but I didnt really have a whole lot of choice. Within a year I'd already asked my friend for first refusal on the two I sold her and her friend for first refusal on the spotty I sold to her. (Both agree'd thank god!). The fourth had already been passed around quite a lot and I lost track of where she went.

Sadly, 1 of the 2 I sold to my friend has since died (killed in an RTA) and the spotty I sold to her friend was PTS a few months back after being kicked in the field

My friend still has 1 but wont sell him back to me

The fourth...... his new owner called me a couple of years back to ask if I wanted her back. I dragged my OH to see her in a field and although I desperatly wanted her, he put his foot down due to her being completly unsuitable for me

To be fair on him, he was 100% right and if we'd bought her, I wouldnt have my new boy

But honestly? Ive never forgiven myself

Carry around all the guilt of thinking that if I hadnt sold them, 2 might well still be alive

I don't think you ever truly stop missing them, however I have found it helped finding something else that you love just as much! It's not easy though! At least you know she is in the perfect, caring home!

JoBo (i'm on GinaGem's computer).

you never miss them! i havent sold a horse before, but one of the horses i looked after died just over a year ago, and i do still miss him dearly!

I am glad you have piece of mind and know she is with a good home, its good that you have contact and this in itself can help. I think we are all guilty of missing horses and its just a time thing.

I can only hope that Ty and I can have a success story like yours.....you've done the best for her and you'll never stop missinig her..... x

Thanks Stimpy, I actually thought of you and Ty when my mares new owners sent me those pics today, it just shows that sometimes letting them go is the right thing to do, Ive never seen my girl look so good and she is doing so well.

This was the mare that some people told me to have shot!

You will find a good home for Ty, it just takes time.
