When horses can't bear to be split up, will this work?

Further to my other post (Totally devoted....)

Where my 2 mares are so in love with each other that I can't take either one of them for a ride and leave the other at home with a companion....

A friend has offered to have my youngster for a fortnight to split the bond and then says that when the youngster returns home I must never put her back out in the same field with my older mare again.

That I must ensure they can't touch each other over the fence and thst this will solve the problem??

I haven't got enough fields that they'd be out of sight of each other unfortunately.

Do you think this will work??

I had this issue with my 4yr old and her pony pal when she was younger - we had to put her in a stable every time we needed the pony to be ridden. It was a nightmare. That said, when pony was sold it only took her a couple of days to settle to life without her so a couple of weeks break might help. Worth a try if nothing else

It would work. Or you could have your youngster back when you have a week off work, and make sure that you actively work on the problem straight away. You can introduce them back, but take one away about 20 mins later. Then keep doing this during the day, taking one out of sight to work for a while, then putting it back. Maybe split them overnight until you have them well used to seeing the other go away and return.

I had a TB mare that was weaned with a pony .
They were stabled together in the same stable till the TB mare got too big .
They spent 4 years together everyday until my mare started to be ridden .The mare spent 3 weeks being schooled and then they went back in togetherr. When I rode alone and had to leave the pony, I had to put the pony in the stable and then add
an extra bar because she would scale the top .
I can say that perserverance does work .
A friend helped by hanging around the stable when I took my mare out ,so she could check the pony didnt injure herself .
I just increased the time bit by bit and always left the pony with something as a treat to eat .
They would call but eventually they accepted it . I couldnt seperate mine into different fields so it took a little longer.
Even though I dont have the pony anymore, my mare still has
a real preferance for grey ponies.
Good Luck

I do hope this works Madhossy, as you know the problems I have and I am desperate to be able to ride Motor out alone and leave TB at home, alone ...... must try and persevere, but I think TB will have a heart attack

The trouble is - as I now know..... in a horses' eyes, desperate times lead to desperate measures.

In our case it was me who had the heart attack

You're like me Eaglestone, that you've got no one to stay behind to make sure the horsey that's left is OK.

I don't know how you've lasted this many years waiting for someone to ride your TB for you
