Purely self indolegant post but would love to hear of others who have the same experiences!

So bought new horse in December, unbacked TB. Started backing in Jan, all going great, by Feb was walk/trot/canter with and without others in arena, nothing seemed to faze him- excellent!!!!!!!

How ever, spring grass makes an appearance at end of March and my nice laid back lad changes into a monster! If anyone remembers my previous post about it my boy is very athletic with real elevated paces. Unfortunately this means he finds nothing of leaping 4ft in the air and displays a rodeo horse would be proud of! On one particular session he bucked me off (was due to pure excitability) and scared himself silly. He was petrified so I had to go back to basics with him again to regain his confidence.

All fine till he does it again (about 4 weeks later) but this time just as I got on. Unfortunately my handler who was leading me turned him abit sharp and he bronced as he came out of corner.

So I decide to have him all checked and took 3 weeks for them all to come out so he had another 3 weeks off. Saddle ok, back ok but showed he had some sore muscles on his neck- maybe that was why he bucked last time???

Anyway, start again from the very begining as he has forgotten and confidence still low. All fine, get to the stage of lying on him and what happens........ He's now a bit lame!!! No heat or swelling in leg so vet thinks he may of tweaked or concussed something in field as he is partial to having a bit of a blast first thing in morn and the ground is rock hard.

When I got him I was hoping (big mistake!) that we would be starting comps this summer, instead I am no further a long and getting a bit depressed!

Please someone tell me they are in the same boat?!

My chilled out ottb went mental yesterday. Spring grass and mares. Was better today so kept him in with his mares to eat hay not grass for a bit! He'll settle. Give it time.

Me! Got horse last winter to bring on. Between the snow and moving house didnt really do much until march. Then in may she fell whilst having a moment in the field and strained har pelvis. 8 weeks later i started doing a little bit with her before finding out was preggers. So shes a year off and i still cant do amything as she had a sarcoid on her girth area which is being treated. Final cherry on the top is shes now done something to her stifle. I swear this horse wants to be a field ornament for life.

Didnt finish my post.
I had planned to be doing a few little shows last year then building up to hunter trials and dressage this year.
So far i could probably count the amount of times iv ridden her since buying her on my fingers and toes!

:/ that does put my wingey post into its place! The thing is I really want to compete, I am desperate to do affiliated dressage, I'm an instructor so don't earn a great deal but am in a situation where I can afford it, have a lorry a horse with capabilities if only I could get round to backing the blooming thing!

He does a lovely canter pirouette in the field!

I know how you feel.

I bought her because i wanted to compete. Her mother was an eventer and shes a lovely compact sports horse type.

You may have gathered from my list of injuries that shes a tb!

Ha but don't you just love TB's?!

My boy does have a teeney weeney bit of ID in him so not a pure bred TB but looks and behaves like a pure bred TB! He is very beautiful tho which at the moment is all he has going for him!

I love them!

Always wanted one when i was a little girl. So when i saw her i had to have her! She has such a lovely temperament to. Soft and cuddly with a quirky little twist.!

Sounds like mine! Bought him in April 2 years ago out of training, did some digging and found out he had a ligament injury ( was sound and no outward signs of injury ) so turned him away, brought him in last summer, had abscess, did a bit of groundwork then turned him away again as need company for my injured mare ( also tb ) and I was moving house as my hunt grooms job had finished and wasn't needed following season as huntsman change etc.

Winter basically a waste of time as lack of daylight meant I couldn't do the consistent day in day out walking needed following a return to work after ligament injury, also he was a total and utter swine! Had another abscess. Had scans done and was really pleased it just showed a minor injury and vet said he was fine to do any job including event.

Did some ground work and a little hacking. Then decided to move house again as current house was costing me an arm and a leg in oil for heating. Roughed him off for a bit then moved him, rode him once, got him shod, rode him again and found 2 lumps on his girth. Lamed himself slightly being a hooligan and slipping over in the wet when it was chucking it down. Now sound.

Got vet booked as have given lumps a bit of time but no change so think they must be sarcoids. Why right on the girth!

Also have had major bother with feet but now improved no end. It rains... he gets thrush!

We do lots of walking out in hand, it keeps me fit I guess!

Oh OP your story is minor - I hope to God you've got insurance cos you'll need it with a TB!

I got my TB out of training in April 2010. Two months later she started with sinus problems which the hospital vets failed to sort out properly and after numerous operations and hospital stays where we nearly lost her due to infection in her facial bones not clearing, she eventually came home in the September. I was due to take her back in the December for a check up and just before I was due to take her I noticed a mild lameness in one hind leg and a swelling, so I e-mailed ahead to the Professor and asked whether they would take a look at it when I took her to have her sinus checks done. He said that it would be fine and they x-rayed and found a bone chip in her fetlock which was so huge they had to remove it. It was snowing heavily so she was up there for another two weeks. Brought her home on box rest, spend a fortune on sending her to a rehab yard to get her back in April 2011 and started hacking. Went lame again May/June time and was diagnosed with spavin. Hocks injected but still no improvement down the line and as I wasn't happy I asked for a hospital referral as she had also gone lame in front. In October 2011 she went to hospital and on 14th October (the day I had to have my other TB PTS) after scintigraphy scans/various other tests was diagnosed with Navicular, PSLD in one hind limb, confirmed the spavin and arthritis in the fetlock where the bone chip had been removed.......we are now back to hacking out which is interspersed with napping/rearing/spinning episodes.....see my post from yesterday

Does that make you feel better? :)

I feel your pain - I have a TB X Cob... you'd think that may even things out a bit but no, unfortunately TB rules through and through.

The amount of injuries - weeks off - retraining we've done has driven me potty. And as for foot abscesses...don't get me started!!

I'm hoping as he will be 6 next month that he might finally be growing out of being "accident prone" ... here's to hoping!!!!

Hollyhocks i think your winning!
Im really hoping that sometime this year i will finally be able to crack on with some riding! No doubt she will have some up her sleeve to avoid it and once again screw me out of some money!

Mine is totally sound but still has different plans to me. That is, I would like him to cooperate occasionally and actually use his natural talents. He would rather do everything in his power to not do any sort of work at all, even if this sometimes ends up being more work for him. He would prefer a life consisting of nothing but attention and food.

Bought an anglo several years ago, with the intention of racing it. 7 months later we finally managed to sit on her, 14 months later we had canter. Took us 3 years to get it to the races, or it could have been 4!
