Could it be the Huntsman was shouting Hark (pronounced Hike) If they were on the scent trail & he blew hounds on to encourage them then you "hike" the pack onto the lead hound. It would of been followed with a hounds name?? That all I can think of?
please clarify, I take it you mean the huntsman?? Know it can get confusing when the huntsman is also master!
If he shouts after blowing the horn he's either encouraging hounds on or calling them back, which you more than likely knew. Not sure I've heard "higher" before but have heard "here" being used in a high pitched drawn out way. He wasn't calling one of the hounds by name was he? Could one be called Higher?????
