When is a colt fertile?

Can anyone tell me the approx age a colt will become fertile?

Also has anyone ever had experience/heard of a mare getting in foal from a colt 6 months or younger?

im not 100% sure but I thought it was pretty young! my friends horse got loose with some gypsy horses once and they think she was covered by a very young colt as she dropped a coloured baby 11 months later, and the stallion wasnt out with them at that point!

Occasionally, yearling colts are fertile, almost certainly by 18 months, and definitely by 2 years.

They can become fertile anywhere from about 6 months old. Have both testicles dropped?

A colt can serve from 6 months and still be "active" 6 weeks after castration

Unless you want to keep entire for whatever reason then your best getting him done as soon as his "bits" have dropped.

Sometimes some people leave them until a yearling or just after as it can help put definition on them but to be honest getting him cut sooner rather than later will help with his behavior, handling and who he can be turned out with!

Colts can become fertile from 6-12 months depending on the individual, and of course there will be exceptions coming slightly earlier or later.

Ah sorry colt has since been cut, I have a mare at the same yard who was in the same field til he was 5 1/2-6 months old but now is getting a rather large belly, hoping It's not a baby! Thanks for replies

When the vet came to see my boy (gelded at 5) - I bought him last year and explained his stallion history - she said "He'll have a much nicer life as a gelding!".

how long ago was it that he was gelded? they will take a long time to show, hopefully it is just the spring grass thats making her fat!

She was moved away from him in October he was born April, am hoping its just spring grass!
