When is a horse uncomfortably hot?

*sidetracks post*

Ooh can I be in the Fenland clique too? I've never been in a clique!

And my bigger Welsh cob prefers to be on the point of sweating than anything approaching chilly!

That reply is in the wroung thread Jemima * chuckles heartily to self however

Know of one horse who went down with colic because it basically over heated! Just wondered if excess heat (but not sweat causing heat) would cause weight loss?

Goodness knows - I suspect it depends on the horse. If the horse is over hot then it may not be eating as well plus if it's really warm and has a good drink of cold water it could be uncomfy but sub-colic and drop weight with pain and tension?

A horse is uncomfortably hot when in this weather and temperature has for instance a Mark Todd 400g with an under rug and neck on in this heat. What is wrong with people, it is so mild for the time of year and people are rugging up like its minus degrees!!

Agree, some people have no common sense. When I went up to the yard the other night it was 12 degrees C and they had double rugged my boy who only has a bib and belly clip. When i pulled the rugs off he picked one up in his teeth and threw it out of the door, which made his feelings clear!

mine is warmyly rugged in a heavy weight or combo of middle weight and fleece, but purely cause he is clipped and stops his growing so fast

Is happy though - lives out
